Maybe crumpling isn't the right word, but she seems to always take a secondary position even to people who should theoretically be on the same tier.

I really don't think there's anyone who's saying "I'm supporting her because she has the best chance to win"? I'm supporting her because she got so close twice and it's heartbreaking and I can't give up without trying again, even if she's really my #2 rather than #1. I'd assume there's a few other people like that, outside of her usual #1 folks.

I never quite thought about it until now but there is a recurring theme in my participating here on backing characters who I feel like "deserve it" - not "owed it", just to be clear, there's a difference - and I never quite thought about that until just now, checking the past:

• XXI: Lightning (for justice)
• XXIII: Sephiroth "penance run" post-unfortuate XXII events, Aerith post-lawyering prior year, and Kefka in my heart because yeah, it felt like he "deserved it" based on his repeated strong contest performance and historical close calls
• XXIV, XXV: Aerith post-finals losses

Throw in XX Vincent just because he was the last FF7 character (not to mention my first year), and outside the usual Cissnei pushes the only time I've actually truly supported my #1 all the way was in contest XXII with Tifa.

But I think there's still a lot of enjoyment that can be found in supporting a character who's not your #1 favourite, and your #1 gets put on the back burner as a result? The best time I ever had in this contest was the Lightning run, and maybe that was more due to being so new I wasn't thoroughly burnt out yet. But I like to think it was also a bit of, I don't know, a little contest self-sacrifice for the greater good?

Sorry if all of the above sounds dumb, just want to get this posted before lefty drops Cindy's stats so we can forget I ever posted it.

I like how Lightning got steamrolled by two of the biggest juggernauts in contest history, followed by facing...Edward.

Don't worry Martin, there's no shame in backing a character who has reached finals twice before! There's only shame in seriously backing characters who have already won once, and many of the people judging you are either guilty of that now or have been in the past.

I feel personally attacked even though I have never had any hope of my favorite winning again and my second favorite won before I started participating and no one will take pity on me

I will say its funny that the lead up to that finals I was told constantly that Ramza had no chance

yeah by people that were all also going to vote ramza because they thought aerith was some unbeatable machine for some reason

It's like when I was told the Steiner alliance was afraid of Squall in the finals when nobody was going to beat him lawl

I'll confess to being one of those who thought Ramza had zero chance and was disappointed Aeris was being given a freebie to make up for the previous loss. I realise how frustrating that must've been to hear to her fans especially after how it went down, and I will not make such a statement again, no matter who she's against!

Ah, yeah, I probably messed up on that list in some spots, but you get the general idea. The important thing is that we do something to commemorate the 25th anniversary, whether that be a 23/24 character champions contest or a 100 character all-star contest (decided by stats or best 4 placements or whatever) or even an ncca-style tournament of either champions only or 128 characters (top 5 placements plus top 3 bravery default characters). Heck, I'd even take a one round Kill My contest consisting of every single character to appear in this contest. Just as long as it's something.

Anima is way cooler of a mother than Jenova and never performed well either.

Doomtrain is the only one that actually does well consistently, and even it's been booted. People just don't care enough about summons to push them with any regularity.

How has Yojimbo not been in this thing yet?
