By in your opinion I mean beyond just the prescription of the rulebooks:

Also, my OG D&D...... that's also kinda nebulous. Technically the only OG classes are Cleric, Fighter and Magic User, supplements added Paladin, Thief, Assassin, Monk and Druid.

Then there was AD&D, which is great, had a different core list of classes: Bard, Cleric, Monk, Thief, Fighter, Magic-User

And then there was the 1st edition Basic set, which I think is the most famous one (debatable): It had Cleric, Fighter, Magic User, Thief, Dwarf, Elf, and Halfling as classes with supplements adding Avenger, Druid, Gnome, Paladin, Knight and Mystic

...

AD&D 2 is the version I personally is most familiar with: It had 4 metaclasses (Fighter, Rogue, Magic-User, Priest) with sub-classes that are more specific: Fighter, Paladin, Ranger; Mage, Specialist Wizard; Cleric, Druid, Priest; Thief, Bard)

...

So, that aside:

...

...

I forgot what I was asking for
