Been watching a bunch of videos of Good Samaritans rescuing Sloths from just lying still bang smack in the middle of the road as cars go by.

I get that they are low energy but surely they still realize roads are dangerous? I thought they evolved to live in trees for protection from predators? Why are they cool with being completely and utterly open?

I mean it takes time and energy to climb down a tree, crawl to a road, crawl halfway across the road and then decide "That's it, here's the spot!" with no food or water in sight.

Imagine the same scenario in Mauville City and some Slaking decides to park his rear on the eastern road.

You'd probably need a Gym Leader to clear him out.

Because they perceive time differently than us.

Dogs perceive time quicker than us, at least 25% quicker (https://www.scientificamerican.com/ article/small-animals-live-in-a-slow-motion-world/), and this is based on metabolism.
Sloths have an incredibly slow metabolism, therefore they perceive time at a lot slower rate.
So, to them, they probably don't even see the cars going past, and think the road is always empty, except for a faint-buzzing occasionally.

This is largely bs as you are contextualizing this to human perceptions, sloths do respond to predators, so they most certainly perceive quickly moving objects.

Besides that, the roads are warm, and far more importantly provide clear line of sight, most likely seeming a safer space then bellied down in some scrub where anything could stumble upon it. Since they arent going to bother to climb a tree to rest and then climb back down.

Outside of a handful of indigenous South American tribes, there isn't much of a tradition of eating sloth meat. Researchers who work in Amazonia and have sampled the dish report that it's slimy, chewy and gamey, and most feel that one serving is enough for a lifetime

Aren't they carnivores? Mammal carnivores usually don't taste so good.
