a lot of people , don't iirc. Then again a lot of people don't have a high opinion of most lawyers, as well. And, you had to have been a lawyer to be a judge

I think this is one of those questions where its really do you have a high opinion of the power their office gives them? As people they could be anywhere from saint to devil, but ultimately what matters is the power they wield.
I might be a little biased due to my relatively recent positive experiences with both a compassionate and professional defence lawyer and a judge who saw me as a person. Defence lawyer > prosecution for sure though. Professionally speaking thats just a fact. Defences job is to get you a situation where you can rehabilitate/atone in a healthy environment. Prosecutions job is to stick you in jail regardless of whether its appropriate because youre not a person to them. --- "The US is not a single country. The judge I clerked for is my standard for what the office should entail. She is also genuinely the best and warmest person I have ever met.
Needless to say, most fall short of that standard. --- Party leader, passive-aggressive doormat, pasta eater extraordinaire! ... Copied to Clipboard!
