A new political candidate is running for president and causing a stir, she agrees with the majority of your political stances and comes across as exceedingly intelligent.

However she is completely blind in both eyes. Not that "legally blind" poor eyesight, she absolutely cannot see anything and never has been able to.

Inverse to other relevant important leadership position if not American.

Could you vote for her?
Or do you think that's too big of a handicap for the role?

I can't think of any reason why a blind person cannot do the job.

I could see some edge cases where not being able to read top secret documentation only meant for the President's eyes/ears could be... Challenging or create unnecessary delays or security concerns.

But generally speaking, I would still support them if they were the candidate I most agreed with.

Surprisingly negative results. Who knew we were this biased against blind people as a society and just waiting for an opportunity to say so without repercussions?

Delays, possibly, but somebody would have had to create those documents and thus have the clearance to know what they say. That person could give the report directly to the President.

Considering they'd have all the resources at their disposal, I'd have no issue at all.

Kinda disappointing the number of no responses though

Our last president we had couldn't use his brain, I don't see why having one who can't use their eyes would be worse than that.

The only real issue would be a situation requiring viewing of film/video (live or otherwise).

There's software that turns text, etc. to Braille already. Commercially it's called BrailleBlaster, IIRC.

People are way more than what a sheet of paper says they are.

that said as a politician they are just as capable of being a PoS as everyone else.

Edit: Dammit...i did the cynical thing again.

We literally have a president who's brain/memory operates like mushy oatmeal and geriatric senators like mcconnell who lag IRL midspeech. I think we'll be ok with a blind person's delays/challenges.

This. And I don't think the first paragraph's issue is impossible to address. I would however put more weight than usual on their VP pick just in case.

I didn't say impossible, just challenging. You're essentially adding another communication method to account for, as well as the sheer additional size of material (have you ever seen a full Braille bible, for example?) that you would have to produce and ensure your system of braille generation is secure (shouldn't be too difficult, but it still a concern).

Additionally, how much of a document are you translating into braille? Are you only translating the truly top secret, never to be read aloud type stuff?

It undeniably adds complexity to an already multi-million dollar operation of handling the President.

Wouldn't it add more complexity to elect a less competent president tho?
