Does Avatar count? There are only two of them so far but there are more coming. Some people complained the story was bad.

Alita: Battle Angel, though I wouldn't describe its box office performance as huge. It did well enough.

Probably catch flak for this here, but IMO Van Helsing (2004) had a pretty workable story overpowered by a special effects mess at the end. The theatre I went to had people walking out saying "WTF just happened?".

Marvel movies? I mean sure some of them are pretty ugly but they are typically spending tons of money on sfx but the stories are all crap

I admittedly don't remember much of the first one, the second one though is much more fresh in my head and I'll be damned if I can tell you anything about the plot. Gorgeous movie, definitely an amazing theater experience, but in terms of being something like well acted, written or telling a compelling story, definitely not up to par. I'd say the series is a good example.
