I fucking love this game. From it's themes of existentialism, humanity, death, life, purpose down to it's beautiful music all the way to it's incredible writing and even down to it's fantastic character designs.

It's so God damn good, and it doesn't have any right to be.

I thought the gameplay was excellent. Not even considering plug-ins, the sheer amount of combinations you can have with weapons is absurd.

I like bayonetta it's fun to play. I tried the demo for nier automata and I wasn't really a fan. It's not bad I just... didn't like the design or aesthetic and the battle system wasn't captivating enough to look past the other stuff weighing it down

The raid story has almost nothing to do with the actual story of Nier Automata. It has unconventional storytelling but tbh it's no weirder than most scifi out there. All FFXIV really shows is the music and some boss battles/set pieces.

Automata is a contender for my game of that generation, competing with Disco Elysium. Such a masterpiece in every way. Was hooked at the amusement park area and never let go

Im partway through my second playthrough. The story is just interesting enough to keep me going, which is the one saving grace since the gameplay is basically Bayonetta but drastically less fun. I would have dropped it after my first run but a friend I trust assured me that its going to get way better, so Im gonna try to stick it out.

Maybe I should've specified I'm really thinking about Bayonetta 3, not the OG. The most noticeable difference in combat is that Bayonetta 3 has tons of enemy variety, while in my entire first run of Nier I feel like I only ran into five or six different enemies. To me, the pod programs are analogous to the infernal demons, and they offer less flashy and far fewer moves than the demons can have. Similarly, while I like that you can use different weapons in Nier, it all pretty much boils down to mashing square or triangle until the enemies are dead, whereas in Bayonetta 3 every weapon has a much more robust moveset, which you tap into as the situation calls for. The combat just feels like such a chore that I don't even bother fighting every group of enemies I encounter, whereas in Bayonetta 3 I'd pounce on every opportunity I got.

The quests and running back and forth across the desolate city bore the hell out of me, but like I said, the story is interesting enough to keep me going. That, at least, it has [every] Bayonetta vastly outclassed in.

I was surprised by this game, kinda looking past it at first cause it looks a bit weeby. Liked it as one of my top games on ps4 after playing. Didn't really like 9S story playthrough though, that part was definitely boring to get through to play A2 - my favorite char story wise. And also the hacking mini games were also boring to play through.

I'm soooo tired of people acting like 2B is some emotionless robot(lol) with a cold personality that only cares about the mission, nothing else. The entire game makes it pretty clear that she's only this way because it's her way of coping with having to kill the person she loves triple digit amounts of times. Other material goes into detail that she's treated 9S like a friend, that she's been kind to him, that she's called him Nines, and nothing stops him inevitably doing the same thing that requires her to kill him in the end. So she just shuts off everything. Shit, the entire game long she ACTIVELY helps people in sidequests. She's a kind hearted person that puts on a shell of a cold hearted bitch just to cope with what she feels she has to do to save humanity. And, shit, people also think she knows humanity is gone. If she knew that, she'd never do what she does to 9S. The only reason she does what she does is FOR humanity's sake. If they were dead, it's all for nothing. So even it she thinks that, she's in heavy denial.

Everyone really wants to argue if its bad or the greatest. Its pretty good and its weird to get "offended" thats its not considered one of the best games ever.

The combat is very shallow and the storys linear as hell with predictable twists. The replaying the same story as different characters doesnt help. 9s story is redundant. Skipping him altogether would have really helped.

You...uhh, you can button mash in most action or hack n slash games. Especially at lower difficulties.

I never got this argument. It's the same as people saying you can just button mash in Arkham and beat most enemies. Sure, you can, it doesn't devalue the depth the combat has though. Shit, the game has an easy mode where it does everything for you automatically if you wanna go the button mashing route.

A big point of hack n slash games is what you yourself do to make the combat more exciting. You can play all of DMC5 just by mashing dodge and square. It's probably one of the best hack n slash games ever created though.

If the claim is that N:A is merely an especially polished hack and slash game, and those kinds of games intrinsically put the burden on the player to make the most of them, then... ...I agree? I think it's a perfectly fine game, but it's not my favorite genre, so I don't think it's as good as Horizon Zero Dawn, Deus Ex HR, Skyrim, or Nethack (which, to your point, are different genres).
