It's so utterly pathetic

Honestly how the fuck people consistently support and vote for these sociopaths is mindboggling.

The UK Tories of the past decade are the single-most incompetent major western governing party in modern history and there's really no close second to them, and the Brits still voted for them again because they didn't want to have a beer with that Corbyn guy.

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

I couldn't agree more and what bothers me sincerely is people are going to think you're being hypobolic.

I legit I can't think of worse. The entire platform is "Have no plans, destroy everything, blame everyone else." if you replaced them overnight with foreign agents trying to bring down the UK intentionally, you wouldn't know the difference

I can't understand how they still have any appeal.

How is "other places have terrible conditions, so it's okay if ours are too" ever an acceptable answer?

A bit. Doesn't carry the same religious baggage, and generally less phobia about brown and LBGT people (note generally).

Has an ultra right economic branch, who recently demonstrated why no one actually uses those talking points as policy.

The UK specifically England is very right wing. They are happy to oppose Labour and Lib Dem no matter what Tories say.

On top of that, racism and transphobia are huge. Even Labour lean into blaming immigrants for all problems. Hell we saw in this video "Other countries too!"

If you ever listen to local news in the UK, Tories cannot stop making snide comments about immigrants and transgenders, it's legitmately their main vote winning rhetoric

Have you been in both the US and UK?

Unless you live in like the worst parts of small town rural deep south it's pretty much madness to claim there's less opposition to immigrants and LGBT in the UK than the US.

Show me Sunak waving around an LGBT pride flag like Trump did. Dude walks around making Dave Chappelle anti-trans jokes and no one cares. People support him for it

You don't seem to have spotted this, but the Republicans main contenders currently embody exactly that deep south mentality.

It isn't the UK that threw all the trans people out of the military.

They are most certainly a bunch of lackwit incompetents, and the last 13 years of under investment in the state is now showing in many ways.

But they aren't quite as deluded as the Republicans, yet.

I don't agree. I think Tories are legit worse.

The US had DONALD FUCKING TRUMP as president and yet the UK is falling apart and the US isn't.

The Tories have been in charge for 20 years, most of which with a huge majority. They have passed every law and every idea that they wanted and as a result they lost their credit rating, (not hyperbole), Brexit happened (economically worse than policy the US has done since the 19th century), the countries infastructure is fucked, healthcare (Hospitals, nurses, doctors), schools, roads, post, army are all at the brink of total collaspe at the same time

Utterly botched covid response. Inflation out of control, the value of the Pound in freefall, Gig economy destroyed, standards of living in the biggest decline since WW2

And the government's literal response is "It's not our fault, damn immigrants and transgenders." They have no plan, no real policy. Just bigotry

How can you claim the Republicans are less deluded?

This isn't even coming to bat for Republicans. It's just the Tories for the past 20 years have been the most incompetent political party of any 1st world nation since the 1950s.

That is not hyperbole. They are legitimately that bad on every level.

Sure, 13 years btw, not that they haven't done plenty of damage.

US slightly got away with Trump because it is the largest economy possessing the most powerful military in the world. Allies stuck it out for 4 years in the hope of a return to normality. May not work again, another Trump term may convince the world that the US is no longer a reliable ally.

Tories didn't have that kind of throw weight, also too stupid to realise it. Arguably less incompetent (in general *cough Boris/Truss cough*) than Trump, but lacking that safety net.

How much autonomy do individual parts of the UK have to be run by other parties (serious question, I don't know)? There is a gigantic gap between red and blue states in the US, deep blue states were able to shield themselves from a lot of what Trump did or tried to do because Democrats were in control of them. If Republicans had more direct control things would have gotten a lot worse.

Complicated.

Some devolved areas a bit more, eg Scotland, Wales to a lesser extent. Local councils have some power but generally government is more centralised in the UK.

Conversely the government had much less power over the courts. Judges are not political appointments and the supreme Court is selected by panel based on merit.

In addition there are 12, with a set retirement age of 75, and due to experience and merit requirements the youngest at present is I believe 63.

So you tend to get a lot more unanimous decisions based on law, rather than a straight partisan judgement with a quick coat of legal whitewash.

You're presumably British, it would be understandable that you'd think this is the bottom of the barrel, but this has been standard operating procedure for the Republican Party for a long time.

But demonstrably the UK's Tory government of the last 20 years has been worse than the US

Including 2 Bush terms and a Trump term and Republicans holding both houses

I don't buy it

20 years is wrong, the Labour government saw a lot of investment and indeed a school refurbishment program to fix the current issue before it was a problem.

Of course that program was cancelled by the incoming Tories 13 years ago.
