When they lay out those buttons on the floor that say different words when pushed, people act like their pets can genuinely communicate with their owners by stepping on them, when in reality they just push random buttons for attention and maybe figure out which button makes their owner give them a treat

I mean, if they figure out which button to press so that they can get food, that is kind of a form of communication.

for fish

-purposely breeding fish so they are born with a defect that makes them look "pretty" but is really harmful
-artificially colored fish (scales colored in way that resembles a pattern. hermit crabs with painted shells)
-keeping beta fish being sold in tiny jars
-keeping fish in novelty tanks (tanks too small or cramped or shaped in a way that's harmful to the fish)
-fish used in fashion (shoes that have space to put a live fish, clothing with clear pockets made to hold a fish, nail extensions designed in a way to keep a live fish)
-putting fish without prepping a tank fish

Buying any type of animal as a gift for someone that isn't prepared to give proper care for it.

for rabbits

-the idea that they are easter gifts for children
-the idea that a small cage with a water bottle and pine tree bark (which hurts their feet, emits toxic gas when urinated on, and is a chocking hazard) is sufficient enough for them

Rabbits can live around 10-15 years and need plenty of space, fresh vegetables, and a water bowl (or fountain). Water bottles are terrible for them because of the amount of effort it takes just to get a little amount of water. they often tire out trying to hydrate themselves.

Declawing Cats.

But thankfully the civilized world has banned that grotesque procedure except for one backwards country in Yankeeland.

Yankeeland where the vets care more about the almighty Dollar than pets health and are happy to do this utterly barbaric procedure.

Even in Britain before it was right out banned vets refused to do it (except on medical grounds like if the cat had injured its paws) and it isn't even taught in veternarian schools here.

If you do not want a cat scratching the furniture then don't get one.

Also for fish

-overcrowding a tank
-mixing in too many species with no concern for each other's well being
-any decorations that could harm fish
-thinking Chinese algae eaters or snails are good for cleaning algae . yes when they are tiny they will mainly eat algae but once they get bigger they are going to start eating fish to stay healthy. You should regularly cleaning your tank!

-no child should be expected to care for an animal on their own. Even if you buy a pet for your kid it's still your responsibility to look after it.

Yes, pets should never be surprise gifts.

In fact surprise gifts as a whole should be an obsolete practice. In this era of increasing cost of living these things should be discussed and budgeted for in advance. Sure, you dont get the excitement from opening a Christmas present and not knowing what could be inside, but you shouldve gotten over that buzz by the time your age reached double digits.

I had 2 parakeets when I was a kid that would fly around the house and go back to their cage. It was always open. I always liked birds but couldn't stand seeing them locked behind bars.

That's why you rescue and adopt. There are any number of animals who need that owner to discover them in the shelter and take care of them.

There's a time and place for pet ownership.

I don't know about a dog since they can eat more stuff. But I know for sure a cat can't be healthy with a vegan diet because like you said they are carnivores.

You're underestimating the stupid. You have to be fully committed to the stupid. To the point where you don't care that it is bad for the animal. That's much less important than maintaining your stupid ideals.

This is the equivalent on Humans:

People who declaw cats should have the same procedure done to themselves.

I see that a lot of vets in the US have stopped doing it and it is now even banned in a few places there, Well done they are finally seeing the light there.
