Fun fact, Tomatoes are in the same family as deadly nightshade and for a while people thought tomatoes were just as deadly.

Only a few nightshades are actually deadly.

The potato plant is also a nightshade and it's poisonous. If you eat the fruit of the potato you get some nasty diarrhea and stomach pains.

I dunno why the potato is safe to eat.

This is a topic parodying the earlier topic where the TC asks if marijuana is legal where the posters live.

Based on comments from other threads I doubt anyone here has actually had real marinara sauce. It was named after the Italian sailors who made it with whatever ingredients they had on hand which meant anchovies. Before the margherita was invented one of the more popular pizzas was just with the marinara sauce. The holdover from that time is why anchovies are a common topping on pizza.

They can also kill you when rotting. A family had a bunch of potatoes in their basement and they started rotting and released a poisonous gas that killed most of the family when they went down in the basement. I mean, it takes a lot of potatoes to do that, but still, don't leave potatoes lying around if they go bad.

I heard this story before and it's not clear if it's the potatoes that did it. Most likely thing that would cause that incident is carbon monoxide.

Rotting potatoes give off a solanine gas, which is capable of causing a loss of consciousness
