Basically a unilateral "we are going to do something absolutely none of our customers are going to like with zero warning and don't give two shits, take it or leave it," decision. Microsoft almost did that with Xbox LIVE until they actually got some sense knocked into them. Netflix has dropped hints like they want to but have generally managed to stay just on the right side of not being dicks. YouTube seems to be gearing up to (they've given warning but it's not like yelling at them is going to make them change their minds).

There's been no real downside to companies engaging in these kinds of things, so yes.

See this is annoying and I wouldn't want that to happen to me personally but from an outsider looking in it looks like a company wanting to tempt more people to their subscription packages. This is more subtle and eases people into believing that something has more value than it does.

I'm talking about hamfisted, "we are DOING THIS, stop bitching," kinds of decisions where a company just comes out swinging with something that is easily understood as unpopular and they have no interest in listening to anyone pointing out what a shit move it is. Basically they overvalue themselves deliberately to try and "cull the herd" and only retain customers who will cow to ludicrous demands (because those customers were already the most valuable to their portfolio in the first place and they don't "need" the money of smaller customers).

Companies have been given free reign to shit all over everyone (customers and workers) for decades now. We haven't even seen the bottom yet.

Hasbro got off to an early start with their attempt to enshittify Dungeons & Dragons via their now-aborted OGL 1.1 revision back in January.

Those bots are there BECAUSE of the change. It's easier to write a bot that makes posts and comments without using the API than it is to write an automod that removes bots without an API.
