Man I just can't reach White Land 2

Any tips for not ranking out White Land 1?

If youre feeling gutsy, theres a substantial shortcut you can use in the ramps. You can gain few seconds if you pull it off, but you risk crashing every time you use it. I included a video to show you just what Im talking about.

Personally, I dont use a boost at the very beginning when you first go through the recharging area. I feel like this level has too many opportunities to rack up damage, so I like to keep a supply of energy for the early rounds, rather than using the early boost.

When I hit that very first steep turn (the one just before the ramps), I try to stay cautious and take the curve as tightly as possible, even at the expense of going through the snow that slows you down. As soon as I complete the curve, I use a boost, to get back to max speed and hit the ramps.

I was trying Fire Stingray at one point but I hate how awful its acceleration curve is

Boost at the timing line into the pit lane after the entry jump. Either blast turn or slide around the first slide zone and as soon as you have control, boost to get your top speed. Then either boost on the exit of the second slide zone or the straightaway before the timing line. Your skyways will be laps 2 and 4, right before the 2nd slide zone.

Managed to unlock all the courses so far. Barely completed Queen League cuz I got 20th place in the 4th race. Phew!

I'm shooting for top 100 on the leaderboard this weekend. Have like 60 races to go before I've cleared the 500 99 races completed. Need like 14 wins for the final Team Battle achievement and another 2k boosts for that achievement. Getting wins with the Falcon feels good.

I feel like there's tons of little tricks you have to do to go fast and the game doesn't tell you all of them

Like I just learned today that the best way to keep speed after a jump is to hit down right before you land

Ive always just held down during the entire jump to ensure a smooth landing. If you dont do it, the car hits the ground upon landing. If you hold down, you can hear the difference.

Its been like that since the SNES game. And I think if you select Tips on the menu screen, it cycles through various tips, with that being one of them. I think.

The game does tell you, buried in the settings there's a hint section explaining most concepts.

It's in the tips. I hold up to dive down then finish with the glide before landing that way I can keep top speed and potentially get a block or jam in on another driver that's gliding.

Yeah holding down is generally good but bad in very specific ramps. I think in Port Town, it's actually better to land early? In time trial, it makes me feel like landing earlier is better cuz it gives you more time to do a turn after.

If you don't want to think, holding down on every jump probably just works

I've only done 7 races so far. Haven't crashed out yet, and improved in my ranking in the last couple races. Highly doubt 1st place is going to be achievable unless I get very lucky. But it's a fun game so far.

Keep racing, 1st place will come in time

I'm using Wild Goose now.

Crashed out in the final lap because getting top 20 is so hard

Dropped 40 places while asleep so need to climb back into the top 100. Pretty easy climb back up

The game starts feeling a lot different when your aim becomes more focused on higher placings than just surviving the race and getting a middling placing. Much more dangerous obviously.

I refuse to move off of Fire Stingray though. In the very unlikely event I ever get 1st place maybe I'll consider it.

Back in the Top 100, so I'll guarantee a finish inside and get the badge.

It's some real sweat lords these days. I can't do as well as I used to everyone's getting too good.

I feel like Fox and Stingray are the two best options by far for high ranking.

Stingray has that top speed, great turning, and doesnt lose much speed when you let off the gas. Fox has the most boosting per race and great recharging.

Falcon just doesnt do anything great, and Goose is a damage tank, but not a great turner or accelerator.

But even with all of that, the game is 100% winnable with any car. The game is pretty well balanced in that regard.

Stingray seems like the one that requires the most skill to use, so that's why I'm sticking with it. I assume if I can get decent at it, I'll be decent at the other machines too. Grand Prixs are a bit tough though.

Fox > Stingray > Goose > Falcon

If Stingray gets to top speed, Fox must boost to outpace.

1 boost laps is all you need, hang around the inside of the top 50%, and save your boosts for the last leg on the final lap.

Just got 1st in a Mini GP for the first time!

Big Blue = 10th
Port Town I = 1st
Death Wind II = 10th

Was using Stingray. Ive finished in 1st place twice with that car now, but never in F-Zero 99, so I havent unlocked the car color for it yet. One of these days

Congrats on the prix win! I've yet to win a prix and finished 94 on the weekly leaderboards and no top 100 badge for doing so...

This is really addicting even though I'm awful at it.

Getting a bit tired of Big Blue and Mute City I though.

When we recently got a bunch of new courses, I thought it would shake things up a bit. And it did for like a week. Now everyone just votes for those courses again.

I won my first race... Mute City II in Queen League

AND I finally made it past White Land I... thank god I got like 3 KOs to have the health bar I needed

then I crashed out on the final lap jump because someone smashed into me... what a fucking rollercoaster of emotions this grand prix was

Nice! Its a good feeling when you cross that finish line and the 1 pops on the screen. Its really tough to do.

And just a heads up, I believe that you cannot rank out on the final race of the GP. I believe there are only 20 racers, and the qualification to finish is top 20. So if you wanna just take the last race easy and finish it, you can conserve your energy.

Sadly it's a lot of ppl who can't handle the harder maps and would rather try the familiar map for a win. But the frequent winners are much better at those maps imo, and ppl should try to branch out

Finally got my 8th Falcon win so it now leads the pack of the other 3. I can't wait for King's League on Friday.

A lot of people just pick the easy maps because they are not as good at the game and that's fine I guess. I pick them too now that I've figured out how to win races.

Got my 2nd win today and in 99 too so I got the skin for Fire Stingray.

Ive been playing around with Goose a bit lately - does that car attract sparks more strongly than the other cars? I feel like with Goose, I get super boosts like crazy.

Goose has high resilience to being pushed around. This makes it so it's easier to stay in a crowd where a lot of collisions happen, which is why you get more spark than other vehicles without relying on the big gold vehicles

Sometimes, you finish in 49th place and beat all of your rivals. Other times, this happens.
