It was just announced during the Nintendo Direct this morning.

meh GX was the absolute peak of the series.

Should've just rereleased that sucker with online play.

I can't wait!

I am more pogged for this that I can describe.

I don't know if F-Zero fans are really excited or if they feel like Nintendo is just trolling them at this point

Im not really a F-Zero fan, but I like multiplayer games with lots of chaos. This seems like it'll check off that box nicely.

The mode 7 racing games are way worse than X and GX. That said, the 99 players could be interesting if they solved the issue of lag.

This game is more fun than it has any right to be.

Played yesterday for a few hours, including 2 knight grand prix.

It's really stupid fun, I love it.

Played a bunch tonight. Best ranks are 2 & 4. I finished in 1st place on my team in a team battle as well.

Im really digging it. And hopefully, theyre using this to garner some interest in an actual new F-Zero game (one can hope)

I hope this is just the start to hype up for another F-Zero as soon as the Mario Kart DLC is done.

Eh it's kinda fun. I've never played an F-Zero for more than a minute, but this one is pretty straightforward. The opening area where all the racers are lined up is pretty hype and kinda funny, too.

I got 2nd once and in one race I spent a good while in 1st before eventually dropping to the 30s lol. It's funny how quickly things can turn around for better or worse.

I should start paying more attention to 99 games. This is the first one I've actually played and it's from the first one of them to be based on a series I've never played lol.

Wipeout has always been SUPERIOR to F-Zero, to be perfectly frank.

As long as you somewhat enjoy the genre itself, just try out these 99 games if you have the chance.

It's nothing to play for a long time anyways, but getting a good placement just feels so rewarding, if you think about the 90+ people you put behind.

Doesn't matter if F-Zero, Tetris or anything else.

It feels like someone wished on a Monkeys Paw for a new F-Zero.

How are you handling sharp turns? I'm still toying between braking, letting go of gas, and drifting I guess with the strafe buttons like MK.

Letting go of gas during drifting is very important, but how and when to do it heavly depends on the car you use.

And if you play a grand prix, the most important thing is consistency and surviving anyways.

Already got some grand prix where the sole leader with a huge gap to second place simply blew up in the last race.

Race 1 - 1st place
Race 2 - 1st place
Race 3 - DNF

That stuff even hurts me, even if I profit thanks to that.

Yeah I need to play with different cars. Been Blue Falconing since I'm a basic bitch, but it really feels having a heavier car can be an advantage with barreling through the pack.

Eh it's alright. It doesn't really seem to have any skill involved aside from knowing the tracks. It is really just a big cluster fuck for a majority of the time. Not sure how long this is going to last since Mario and Pacman are gone or on the way out.

Tetris 99 still going strong though

Its already been said, but letting up on the gas while doing the strafe turns (sharp turns) is the way to go. I dont really brake ever during a race. And ever since the original F-Zero, Ive used Fire Stingray because that car turns the best (I believe Golden Fox turns the worst).

Is there a brake button? B = Gas, A = Turbo, L/R = Drift, ZL/ZR = Spin

I've been using the green car mostly cuz of its durability lol. Manage to finish 15th in a Grand Prix too and finally unlocked all the courses so far. feelsgoodman

To break you just let go of the accelerator. The tutorial tells you this too.

Pro tip: everyone go into the options menu and look at the game tips. There's more in there the game doesn't tell you at all like how jumps reset your spin

I concur with this. Another thing they don't tell you is that KOing cars increases your power meter (up to 3 times I think?) and when you KO another player, it refills your power meter

I do, in the Mario Karts that let you negate banana peels with brakes. Which I think is just 64 and Super Circuit. zzz

In my mind, that's not a brake button. That a button I just press for a split second when I hit a banana peel lol. Otherwise I'm not touching that button ever

Yeah I managed to KO someone with like no health and went back to full. It gave me a huge boost since the game really is about maintaining your health throughout the races.

KOing in general is extremly satisfying too.

And in the last round / last curve many people go all in and blow up in the gamble.

You know that scene in Avengers when Thor blasts Iron Man, and Jarvis tells him his power is now at 400%?

Thats the feeling when you have low power and you KO someone. It is a moment of realizing what just happened, and then you mash the turbo button.

I only played a little last night, but I quickly noticed that each press of A gives you a preset amount of boost, kind of like a mushroom in Mario Kart. You don't have to hold A the whole time like in regular F-Zero games.

I'm looking forward to trying a Grand Prix tonight!

Thats how it was in the original F-Zero. You would have 3 turbos to use in every race. You could use them all in a row and blow your load, save them for strategic moments (cutting across mud, using them on a ramp to reach a hidden shortcut, etc.), it didnt matter. Just press the button and get a 5 second boost.

In the original game, it was indicated by the 3 Ss in the lower right. In the pic below, the guy only has one green S left, which means he only has one remaining turbo boost.

It's what I've been doing since the start of my FZero career back in the 90s, and it's something I will continue to do today. The amount of times I've died at the finish line is innumerable, but dammit, gotta go fast.

X was like that too. I played the hell out of X and own it on the Wii U, it's still just a button press that uses health. I would just mash the boost button as the red robot guy into oblivion.
