Is Outer Wilds a particularly board 8 game? I checked it out because a lot of people seem to consider it an all-timer, and B8 hasn't felt beyond the reception I have seen elsewhere.

Nah it's not. It's beloved everywhere for sure. I have no idea how I forgot Ace Attorney when I made this topic, but I'm not surprised to see it dominating.

In a similar vein, that's even less directly tied to Board 8, I only played Danganronpa 2 and V3 because I learned of the Something Awful LP of them through here. That's probably not a series I get into without this board.

So there's 5 games/series. Outer Wilds is number 1 with a bullet, but the others are all good

It wasn't entirely because of b8, but I guess Ace Attorney.

They also got me into Nier, though it's Automata that I liked even more.

Chrono Trigger.

With Ace Attorney I actually saw that in a magazine and thought it looked great. Outer Wilds I got into through gaming podcasts yeah. Persona as a series could count but series feel like a bit of a cheat, as I started with 3 and thats a good game but no 4 or 5.

Tales of Symphonia back when I was a preteen. Best a single b8er convinced me to get is Hollow Knight

Portal 2, probably, actually. I played it because of Game of the Month and think I got it from a user here.
There's plenty of other games I could probably list from having learned about them from b8ers, like Umineko and A Hat in Time as well. Dunno how I pit the three games against one another.

do want to thank b8 also for dragging me over to suguri and the other oj games too though, and also probably contributing to getting me on ace attorney too (actually unsure now that i think about it it would've have had to have been like within a year of me making this account and i'm not sure i even came to this board by then). oh yeah also i think i only got the sky crawlers game a little bit after it was in vgmc a decade ago too so that counts too really, and i'm still weirdly nostalgic for it, intense jank and all

I'm a latecomer to B8, only... what, three years now? Still, mine goes to Saira. Yes it's relatively unknown, but it was a cute little puzzle platformer with surprisingly decent music.

It totally would be Timespinner if I ever un-lazy myself enough to plug a controller in my PC.

Definitely AA. I'm pretty sure I've only started VNs because of here.

Honestly, I'd say a majority of my top 25 games I first played because somebody here insisted I do. Including ones from series I'd heard of, which includes Tales of the Abyss (I'd already played Symphonia before coming here). If it's "heard of" then it's Persona or Ace Attorney, bar none.

I wouldn't be as into JRPGs or Japanese stuff if it weren't for this board helping me discover how awesome all that is. So thanks guys.

It's really not. There are tons of games I've heard of, but would have never thought to play until I heard someone or someones here extolling them.

I think there was already a slow moving Umineko topic here when I started playing.

As I said before, I also considered "what are the odds I would have played this game otherwise, even if Board 8 resulted in me playing it sooner?" Which is why I didn't say Chrono Trigger or Life is Strange.

Pretty certain I would have never played Ace Attorney without B8.

I feel like SBFP made enough Ace Attorney references that it would have eventually piqued my interest. Incidentally, they definitely did get me to play a lot of games B8 might have otherwise. Persona 5 in particular comes to mind.

Katamari I think. I think most other Board 8 inspired games werent hits for me. Havent tried Outer Woods yet

Though I only ever actually owned the one on PSP. Played it a lot though. What a joyful time that was.

The thing about Chrono Trigger is that unlike the rest of the big SNES RPGs that didnt make it over to Europe in their initial release, Chrono Trigger basically had no cultural footprint here until the DS version came out. The SNES FFs had the sequels and the PS1 rereleases (for some reason Chrono Trigger did not get this in Europe), Earthbound had Smash, Super Mario RPG had the later Mario RPGs and so on. Nobody was talking about Chrono Trigger back in the 2000s, even though it was super popular in the US and Japan. So I really didnt hear about it outside of the contests and this board even though I was definitely hearing about Earthbound and other games like that from elsewhere.
