I swear it's just because the writing isn't the same contrite stuff as always, but people confuse that with being good. Just fuckin' read a novel, not everything needs frilly tits and magic.

we are talking about rpgs. when it comes to jrpgs trails games are in a league of their own whether you look at story/character building/dialogue/battle system/etc. they are definitely a cut above any other jrpg series (talking about from sky onward)

I've had Trails of Berseria for some time, but then I thought it's probably going to be a boring slog and didn't play it yet.

that's the tales series but those are good as well. highly recommend the trails games though, sky or zero are good starting points and cold steel remains fantastic.

I like the tales series it just right now I need a break from it.

if you like plot driven games and multi game spanning world building it is goat tier imo. the battles are tons of fun and the characters get really well developed with the individual games having really interesting stories while also building a series spanning plot
