I think some 3D sonic games are more intriguing to play than the 2D It just the time concept, the way they tug you back and forth to the past. It was an amazing game. Still is. What? The combat isnt confusing at all. Smack stuff to charge element use and use an element. And yeah the field is part of what makes it interesting. Also agreed probably my favorite soundtrack out there. Sure there's a fuck ton of useless characters but you don't have to use them. The story I'll say I had trouble understanding cause I was 10 when it first came out but on subsequent playthroughs it made more sense. He thought Frog and Robo were awesome. He didn't get ~~Magus~~ in his first playthrough. When he saw NG+ it blew his mind. He thought the game was over. However, there are several more expansive games that end up being better. Narratively, you have the Trails series that crafts a story for an entire continent. In fact, one of those romhacks was so good that Nintendo decided to release their own romhack and call it a sequel on the 3DS. This is why it's the GOAT. It probably is still the top RPG of all time in terms of general consensus. The majority might say it was surpassed, but the examples will all be different.
