Though reading this topic reminded I haven't checked ammo prices in a long time since they went nuts during COVID. Seems like they've settled to a reasonable level so decided to add to my reserve.

For home defense purposes a shotgun would be better then anything else.

Since you don't need to aim anywhere near as proficiently, ita great for short ranged and enclosed coumters combat in a cramped house abd the collateral damage to your property will be minimized. On top of little fear of a bullet piecing a wall and striking a innocent.

Not usually there isn't, but the Judge is a .45 Long Colt (originally just Colt, but the Long was added to really differentiate it from the newer .45 APC) with an extended cylinder that lets it load .410 shotgun shells, because they're the same size, also .410 doesn't exceed the chamber pressure (.45-70 Government will also fit and blow the gun up). But if you're going to use a shotgun for home defense, get a full sized on one 12 or 20 gauge.

Also, just use a long gun (shotgun or rifle) at home regardless. You don't have to conceal it because you aren't in public, and it will throw more force into the problem than a pistol, especially a revolver with a tiny barrel.

And thirdly, if your house is made out of wood framing and drywall, "shot guns won't blow into the next room" is a dangerous lie. They might not hit your neighbor across the street, but they will absolutely blow into the next room and potentially hurt someone or worse. Always know what is behind your target if you miss.

shotguns are long, have limited capacity, arent easy to handle, and a pump action requires a good bit of training. It is incredibly easy to short stroke a pump shotgun during high stress, which causes a double feed malfunction that takes a long time to clear. If people do this while competing with pump shotguns, inexperienced people will do this all the time when stressed.

So youre either left with a breach loader(double or single barrel, I know our president prefers the side-by-side and shooting into the air), or semi auto shotguns. Semi auto shotguns are pretty unreliable except for maybe a benelli m4/beretta 1301/mossberg 930. Those start at about $1000 on up. Still have downsides like take a long time to reload and limited capacity

Also the comment of not having to aim as much. While that would be a thing if you were shooting ducks or dove or a buck that are 25 yards away, or youre shooting someone from across a mansion, there isnt gonna be a very large pattern. At typical self defense engagements of 7-10 yards a typic shotgun patter Im gonna be less than 3 inches wide. Can you hit a target with a long gun from that distance, sure. Does it require aiming. Yes. Do you need to aim. Yes.

Also buckshot does more damage to drywall than a rifle or pistol round. If youre suggesting using birdshot for home defense, ok sounds cool I hope that other person doesnt have a real gun loaded to deal with mammals for your sake.

the best weapon I have easy access to is probably a kitchen knife / cleaver, the best weapon if I got a minute to grab it is probably a crowbar from the basement

but I honestly see no situation in which I would ever end up using any of these, I'd much rather just run out the door on the opposite end of the house

I would argue a pistol is the best option for home defense, even over a rifle.

One thing that a lot of people overlook is that a rifle or shotgun going off in a small room is gonna make you damn near deaf and disorient you.

Something you really don't want to happen in a life or death situation.

A pistol will be loud too, but not nearly as much.

You could go the route of a silencer, but for many thats a bit of extra work they aren't willing to do.

Anything bigger than .22 and it's not going to matter, you're temp going deaf regardless.

I'd argue it takes more training to use a slide action pistol than pump action shotty. Also I don't think I've used a pump that doesn't have clip capacity, so they don't have to be that limited.

Drywall damage is the last fucking thing I'm worried about if I'm in a situation where I have to fire a shotgun, or any firearm, at a home invader.

Temp deafness yeah. But perma hearing damage is a big thing to consider.

dope. Are any of those made in Germany or are they are Exeter NH guns? I had a German p299 that was beat to shit, now I have a USP that is beat to shit. The actions feel remarkably similar.

one is mk23 baby brother is USP as the Mk25 baby brother a p229.
