Want to get this over with now and not be stuck an hour deciding what to play as when Im actually playing the game. Ive always tend to do melee builds with these games since Im basic and low IQ, but want something more involved this time around. Been leaning towards Paladin, wizards, warlock, sorcerer....is there a difference? Dont they all do magic?

Bard is the most fun class. Can go magic, ranged or melee and be the face of the party.

Difference between Wizard, Warlock and Sorcerer are: Wizards can learn the most spells, uses INT as their damage stat. Warlocks have just 2 spell slots, but they recover on short rests and learn the smallest amount of spells. Uses CHA as their damage stat. Sorcerers are basically in the middle, but gain metamagic which allows them to alter their spells. Also uses CHA as their damage stat.

Think I might do wizard then since all that sounds a bit complicate. Any race that benefits with being a wizard?

Its not that complicated really and fun to try out. But for Wizards imo best is half wood elf, shield dwarf or human for shield proficiency to make your wizard less squishy. They got rid of stat bonuses for races, so it is mostly appearances and the proficiency bonuses.

Also forgot to mention you do get a wizard and warlock as party members, so if you dont want to double dip, though you dont have to use them and can respec everyone to something else if you wish.

The caveat with Wizards learning the most spells is that they also need to switch around which spells are currently prepared for them to cast. It's not complicated--you can do it any time out of combat--but it's easy to forget about, at least in my experience.

I personally prefer Sorcerer because metamagic can cause some shenanigans in combat (3 fireballs in one turn, for example), and because CHA is much more useful as a main ability than INT is.

Warlock is the easiest caster to play, because you can default to Eldritch Blast. They also can get a Pact Weapon- this allows them to be proficient with literally any weapon.

Wizards are awesome, but take a lot of Micromanaging.

Wild Magic Sorcerer is also great, and you can care a little less about what you're doing because the game will randomly decide for you sometimes.

Wizard is very very simple. There is very little micromanaging needed unless you want to use everything. Also Paladins need to prepare spells as well. Though less needed since they will mostly be using their spellslots for smiting.

If you play on narrative mode then any class is pretty easy once you learn that its about utilizing your party more than thinking you can solo the game.

Don't stress over class too much, even if you play dnd you're gonna learn how this game plays dnd and you're probably gonna respec. Personally I'm a fighter/druid hybrid and my friend is a sorcerer.

Warlock

Pump CHA

Take Agonizing Blast and Repelling Blast at level 2

You now have the best cantrip in the game and it scales with CHA which is the best stat in the game. At lvl 5 you get double Eldritch Blast and at lvl 10 you get a triple.

Yeah I'd recommend a CHA based class like paladin, sorcerer, bard, or warlock so you have an easier time with dialogue options/selling things, but ultimately it's up to you.
