I feel like I have a buildup of wax, and my earbuds are making it worse. I don't want to use qtips because they can cause damage, has anyone used those wax drops? Do they work well?

Once a year at the doctors office I have them irrigate my ears. It's amazing. I can always hear so good when I leave there. Like a person all the way across the room writing with a pencil sounds loud when the pencil makes its stroke. I love having them flushed out like that. It is by far the best thing to do.

I used to use q-tips but they literally just push wax down and impact it more. Finally after the doctor told me enough times to not use them and me literally plugging my ears because of using them I learned my lesson and no longer use them. I just get my ears flushed at the doctors office.

q tips don't do shit unless you're basically hitting your eardrum with them

I use bobby pins cause the little loop on one end is good at grabbing chunks

Yes they do work but just keep in mind how fast the drops work will depend on how much wax youve got in there. If theres not much there itll work fast. If youve got a lot it can take several hours. Last time I had to use the drops it took 13 hours for it to pop. A few other things.please whatever you do, do not use QTips to clean your ears!! Those werent made to stick in ears. If you use them regularly and youve got a lot of wax its just gonna push the wax in deeper. Just dont use them period. Use a washcloth in the shower instead-clean the outer part of your ears and then the outer inner part, the part just outside your ear canal. Start doing that after you het this wax out. I switched to cleaning them in the shower that way and its worked far better than the qtips ever did! Finally use over the ear headphones instead of earbuds or cans. Earbuds and cans are a magnet for ear wax. Over the ear is much better.

I didn't even think about asking my general physician about this, I just always assumed that would be an ENT thing. I'll ask them next time I have an appointment

I don't recommend q tips they will just push the earwax backwards into your ear canal. Just use ear drops or something

I have small ear canals so this is a real issue, used to have regular clogged ears due to wax build up, where I had to have a nurse irrigate them. I used to irrigate my ears myself with a syringe, but now I use this ear scoop with an endoscope which works well enough and feels a lot safer than self irrigating my ears.

Just use those bulbs to irrigate your ears, kinda wasteful going to the doctor for it.

I had a hearing problem recently caused by using q tips. While q tips and other similar objects do a good job at cleaning the outside of your ears, they can push hardened earwax further into your ear, making it more of a problem. In the worst case they can even directly damage your eardrums. Since then I've shifted to periodically using ear drops instead.

I use Debrox every now and again. Just tilt my head to the side, put a few drops in, let it do its work for about 15 minutes, then go to the bathtub and blast a syringe bulb with hot water over and over until I get out a big chunk, which has taken as little as 5 - 10 minutes, to upwards of well over an hour.

I posted a topic a couple days ago with these headphone looking things. Costs $1800.

holy damn that is a lot of chunks

i managed to get rid of a similar amount of earwax out of my ears one time but it took a lot of bulb squeezing + hydrogen peroxide and i felt lightheaded afterwards. also used really hot water which hurt the insides of my ear a lil bit but fortunately no lasting damage to my hearing.

multiple cleanings per day. i wish i had less earwax. it basically dribbles out like a runny nose some days. once every few days a huge gob of it comes out. went deaf for a week a while ago in one ear because there was so much in there.

Baby oil is the key. one or two drops will make it slide right out

I have to go to a specialist to get my ears cleaned. I produce more ear wax than the average person and prone to ear infections because of it.
It's covered by my insurance so I get the cleaning where you get to see into your ear while they do it. My ears are absolutely gross.
