This is about how Eevee has become a sort of second mascot, like with Lets Go Eevee and in promo art they're always shown together these days.

It makes sense why Eevee was picked.

Eevee has maintained its popularity over the years. Jigglypuff hasn't. That was evident as far back as Gen 2.

As I recall when Yellow was in development Game Freak was considering a Pink version to release alongside it that would have starred Clefairy, but they ultimately dropped it.

Well there was always that question of which child picked what Pokemon in the first episode of the anime. Of the three we only meet Gary who refuses to tell Ash who he picked. When the two finally battle many, many, MANY episodes later we get Pikachu vs. Eevee making people think 'did Gary get an Eevee as his starter?' I believe this is later debunked and we learn Gary chose Squirtle, but Eevee at the time became his star mon. Later in the Johto arc that Eevee is shown to have evolved into an Umbreon off screen.
