I can't get that link to work even getting rid of the space, but if he's talking about planting trees as "carbon offsets," yeah those are basically farcical.

Until fossil fuels are eliminated from power grids worldwide, anything telse to do with climate change is ancillary.

He wasn't saying planting trees doesn't help at all, just that planting trees alone isn't going to solve climate change.

He advocated for more government investment in green energy, and praised the Inflation Reduction Act for doing just that. He's saying basically you have to bring the cost of clean energy down so that it's not any more expensive than burning oil or coal.

Planting trees is probably as effective as banning plastic straws. The real problem lies at a much larger magnitude. We basically have to reinvent modern civilization if we ever hope to curb the issue. But capitalism is going to ensure that never happens. The most realistic outcome is that some corporation finds a way to profit from the colonization of Mars where we have to pay a subscription for breathable air.
