I understand why people hate Vanille, but she's my favorite of the bunch.

This was definitely the case when the game first came out. She seems to have improved her reputation over time.

I was gonna say i was shocked to see Vanille winning this when i always thought everyone disliked her. She was my fav character in 13 though.

yeah we talked about it in the victory thread about how Vanille hate definitely was a thing in the early days of XIII's release.

honestly I would place her just after Hope in a ranking of how much hate the characters received

that ranking would go Hope > Vanille > Snow > Lightning > Fang > Sazh

Note this is not the same as a popularity ranking in reverse. Like Fang isn't as hated as Lightning, but I would definitely say Lightning is loved more. Likewise Snow would probably drop to the bottom of the love rankings.

From the first two hours of the game, the biggest reason people would find Vanille obnoxious is Hopeless. He is so awful, at least this early, that her trying to get him to stop making excuses gets old fast. But that's 100% on him, not on her, and I think the fact that she was paired with him got her unwarranted hate. A lot of people refuse to change things beyond their first impressions, but I'm not one of them unless that first impression is really bad. I'm actually enjoying her despite her being paired with an obnoxious brat.

Oh I didn't know they replaced Cosmos and Chaos, weird. Was there a story reason for that?

Never played the original far, but wiki says they died in it and Cosmos reincarnated into Materia

the Chaos page just says he's defeated and Spiritus is just a successor who "eventually inherits Chaos's will"
