Usually, I struggle to rank FF characters but 13 I think has a clear order. Snow is the only one I dislike. Never played LR.

Its the glasses chick in 13 who was set up pre-release to be a pretty major antagonist and turned out to be thrown away by the main bad guy after like two scenes total.

Sazh. It seems there has been a reappraisal of Vanille, I can see it. Hope and Snow had potential, not realised by the writing of the game. Fang is a cool design but mostly just there. Lightning is just a terribly cynical example of a company trying to recapture what worked in the past (in this case, Cloud) without actually understanding what it was that made those things good in the first place.

As for Jihl, top tier Nomura design and thats no doubt why she was so central to the marketing - FFXIIIs whole thing was its visuals so of course you put your best looking character designs upfront. The way they handled her in the game though was actually a little insulting? I normally like rugpulls where a story is setting something up only to swerve but her last scene is a swerve into a battle against a profoundly uninteresting character who you fight three times anyway.

I dunno, in a game as colorful as FF13, Jihl looks kinda...she looks like a leftover NPC from FF12.

I understand why people hate Vanille, but she's my favorite of the bunch.

Snow exists to punch and be punched. Hope is an (understandably) angsty jackass, Sazh is great as the straight man but a little overly sad-sack, Fang was stupidly antagonistic to start and I dont buy any of her motives, even if her visual design was the best of the six, and Lightning was... I dunno. Suffered from overexposure, mostly.

my only experience with Noel (not counting the XIII-2 demo I largely forget) is in dffoo and he was pretty cool in the chapter he was introduced

background on omnia, good guys are summoned into the world by Materia. Except Noel was summoned in the middle of a vast desert he wandered alone, "It could have been days, months... No, years even."

There Cloud of Darkness starts speaking to him as a voice in his head for accompaniment, while she warns him of her "abominable" visage and that she will become his enemy in time but Noel's like nah your kindness has kept me alive to this point

He's eventually found by Serah/Celes/Locke/Paine/Eiko, when hearing his story Celes relates to Serah's explanation that he was a lone survivor in a desolate future world. Next scene with the party shocked at how Materia carelessly left him in the desert where Noel then talks about the voice who kept him company and the trivial things they talked about.

It was a p cool introduction and I've had no reason to dislike him yet! he also recently got re-released with a pretty wild infinite looping mechanic when teamed with Cor
