Don't think it's the PSU. I tested the fan button and that still works when it's connected. Tried switching from my outlet to my power strip and same result.

When mine died, it ended up being the third PCIe connector on my graphics card going bad. I thought it was the power supply, so my friend brought his over (with only two PCIe connections) anmd it spun up fine, but wouldnt POST without all three connected, so I ordered a replacement and RMAd my power supply. Got the replacement, same problem. Unplugged the third connector, same thing as with my friends PSU. Turned out when the third connector was plugged in, it would trip the PSUs protections and the PSU would keep it from booting to avoid damaging anything.

RMAd the graphics card, worked like new.

Oh I missed this one. Nah I only keep the actual PSU connected to an outlet since I have accidently turned off the power strip with my feet many times. Or my cat has. The power strip is connected to the same outlet so it's not the outlet.

This is not an option for me. I got it in 2015 anyway so I've needed a new one for awhile.

It's probably your PSU, no need to panic yet.

Is it possible to just get a new power cord instead of replacing the entire PSU?

You could try but if as you said the fan work, so it is getting power.

Then it would be the graphics card probably. I assume nothing would work at all if it was the motherboard.

Nothing will work at all if it's not getting sufficient power.
Those fans are probably 5V 2 amps, you are not running the whole system on that.

Not having your PSU plugged into a surge protector is crazy to me.

But since you mentioned a cat, is it possible that your cat had late night zoomies and accidentally bumped into your PC? I'd check to make sure no connectors are loose.

I can also open the drive when pressing that button. That's how old it is It seems like just the power itself isn't working which probably does mean the PSU went out.

I tend to turn off the surge protector with my feet which is why I stopped plugging it in there. There hasn't been a power outage here in like 10 years. The cat is more likely to jump on my desk than run around. I don't even think she can get zoomies anymore at her age.

PSUs can just die for no good reason after being used for long enough. The components can wear out and if it was a PC from 2015 I'd absolutely try a new power supply first, if you wanted to actually repair this PC

If it really is a nearly 10 year old PC then I'd probably use this as an excuse to upgrade to a new PC, but if you don't have that in your budget then I'd give another power supply a chance first.

Though all of this being said I hate troubleshooting PCs and would probably just pay my brother do it for me lol.

I need to back up my bookmarks so I would replace it either way. I think the Chrome ones are synced but not my Opera ones. Plus I had some tabs open in Chrome I still need. I'll see if I can get a new computer but unfortunately it's going to have to be a prebuilt.

You can get little adhesive things and attach the power strip to the bottom of your desk.

Most of them at least have three diagnostic LEDs, and the nicer ones have seven segment displays. The way the debug LEDs light up, or the debug code on the display respectively, will usually be a good starting point to figuring out whats wrong assuming anything besides the motherboard died.

That said, if its a prebuilt motherboard, you may be SOL as they tend to cheap out on those, and it might not have either.

It's old so it's either the motherboard or the PSU. I guess it could also be the graphics card. I don't think it's the PSU since the fans still work when the cable is plugged in.
