Oh. I used to play MGS 1 and 2 as a kid, I think I beat 2, I remember starting 3 but didn't like the big open jungle-ness and survival aspects so I never played it much. I've always thought I should go back and play them again but there's been so many re-releases it seemed daunting to figure out how to do it. I had no idea this was coming out, might be time to play them finally.

so is this based on the ps1 game or the gamecube remake? or wasthat a remaster. because maybe emulating GCN is still the way to go for game 1...?

Yes MGS1 is the original PS1 version and not the gamecube remake

PS1 version is generally more will liked because the remake adapted the game to the MGS2 engine which made it entirely too easy, while others weren't happy with how much they made snake a superhuman in the cutscenes compared to how he was more grounded in the original

I like both the original and twin snakes though so whatever

The Master Collection is the first time any of these games have been available on current platforms in a decade (Legacy Collection on PS3).

So unless you're looking to play them on old platforms this is really the only choice to make

Mario I guess. September was the more stacked month for me. I'm probably going to spend most of my time catching up (I still haven't played Armored Core, Baldur's Gate 3, Rain Code, Trails into Reverie... probably more)

What a year to have an October birthday! Spider-Man 2 AND Super Mario Bros. Wonder ASAP, plus Pikachu and possibly others at a later date.

I'd probably be voting for it if not for Mario. Several previous months this year have been more exciting for games.

Ridiculously excited for Alan Wake 2, feels like a legit event for anyone invested in what Remedy's been building up.

Definitely getting Spider-Man 2 and Alan Wake 2 day one. I knew Spider-Man 2 was going to be awesome and everything has been outstanding

But everything they keep showing of Alan Wake 2 has been beyond any of my expectations I had for it. It really feels like it's going to end up a really special game. Just a visual spectacle that we haven't seen before. They've gone all out with it and I can't wait.

Sonic Superstars and MGS collection are things I'll get, but I need to push off for now to make room for spooky month, and cramming in Spider-Wake 2.

Spider-Man, Alan Wake, Sonic and Assassins Creed are all gonna be buys for me eventually

Assassin's Creed Mirage - Did a AC marthon the last year and stopped at Valhalla. Might skip it and play Mirage instead because it's going to be a "short" game

Detective Pikachu Returns - The first one is one of the most underrated games I have ever played in my life. It isn't a masterpiece but it's a cute game a lot of people sleep on

Sonic Superstars - Eh whatever it's a 2D Sonic game, I can burn a few hours on this and call it a day I guess

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 - When it will come to PC...some day...some year..

Super Mario Bros. Wonder - I thought there would be no way to make a 2D Mario after Super Mario Maker and make it worth buying - how wrong I was! it looks so good

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 - Always wanted to play the MGS series but as a PC player I didn't really have a good way to do so. Now I will finally do! not the complete series yet though sadly

Alan Wake II - Didn't enjoy Control much but I guess I can give Alan Wake a try too, the first and the second

Super Mario Wonder - > Detective Pikachu 2 - > MGS collection -> AC Mirage -> Sonic -> Alan Wake -> Spiderman 2 (because I can't play it yet)

Technically just MGS1. MGS2 and 3 HD are both playable on Series S/X (though Konami delisted them for purchase at the end of 2021, I guess so people would buy this).

Anyway, big month, Sonic, Spider-Man and Alan Wake for me.

Accidentally voted disgaea but wanted to vote ass creed. Seems like an actual return to form.

Also Mario for sure.

Still can't believe that MGS 2 and 3 will run worse on Switch than they did on PS2. What the hell are they doing over there?

Still, it's the only game I'm getting here right away. I'll wait to hear takes Spiderman 2 because boy it just looks like they're doing the same Venom story for the 85th time and I do not care, so unless they're shaking it up big time I'm avoiding it.

Yeah, I just don't see what's so amazing about the Spiderman games. Played the first one, played MM. They're fine. But they're also the kind of open world game that actively annoys me because there's too much meaningless stuff to do.

some more big stuff outside of the poll this month is on my radar too like front mission 2 remake, crymachina, cities skylines 2... though of course i have my doubts i'll have time to get to them in a remotely timely manner. likewise definitely want to get detective pikachu 2 at some point for sure but uh, yeah, probably just can't manage it next month

overall list of stuff on my steam wishlist for next month at least is:
In His Time (one of the indie titles that was being endorsed by kodansha at tgs, the music in the trailer's really good, i want to try the demo out in the next few days before release)
Station to Station (i think people generally do know about this one, it's that really pretty (and blocky) train game that's seen a good amount of coverage in some showcases lately)
Disgaea 7 (tbh def never getting around to it tho)
Silent Hope (a.k.a. Frederica) (tried out the demo for this one and i'm less hot on it now, didn't expect it to be so committed to being a... pseudo-roguelite foremost, not too much personality to it despite the story, but it probably won't be too bad)
Wargroove 2 (unlikely to ever actually get but well i guess i felt obliged to wishlist it to take note of its sheer existence for srpg list reasons. i'm more a tiny metal kind of person really)
Placid Plastic Duck Simulator new dlc (tbh i don't even have the game on pc i just have it on my wishlist so i remember to check if they ever add it on switch lol)
Helle's Undersea City Project (just some random citybuilder with reasonably okay pixel art, might pick it up if it's super cheap)
You Are Werewolf - Card Death! (looked to be a vaguely similar albeit comparably simplified form of gnosia from the description basically where you do quick games of werewolf to progress the narrative with only a handful of characters and themed around finding the identity of the owner of a werewolf card among them. if it proves to be freeware (like the already out mobile version i haven't checked out) then i might have a look)
Survival Quiz City Omatsuri-hen (i don't really care that it's becoming japan-only in its transition to free to play and also on switch, damn it i'm still going to try it out at least once while there's still a potential playerbase again. and i really hope others also take an interest now)
Sonic Superstars (the reality is i'll probably never get around to picking it up at all, especially not on steam of all places lol, but damn it looks very fun, definitely my most anticipated platformer of the month at least)
Jackbox Party Pack 10 (already talked about this but also the typing one sounds like an absolute mess so i'll surely end up trying that out too, not sure what to make of the rest yet)

My Daughter Is A Cultist (just an average "kinda decent" simple indie horror title from the looks)
Phantom Rose 2 Sapphire (idk i know nothing about the first game lol it's just published by playism so surely it can't be that bad despite being just another roguelike deckbuilder)
Noun Town Language Learning (it looks goofy enough to be a fun indiegame even if it's surely no good as a proper learning tool)

I bought it. I was expecting something like Kakarot, but 90% of the story is told via slideshows using screenshots from the anime and the gameplay is the most generic-ass action RPG.

Its a shame, because the source material seems pretty solid.

Alan Wake II
Marvel's Spider-Man 2
Super Mario Bros. Wonder

Alan Wake II looks like it could be a real GOTY contender. If it weren't for Zelda or BG3 anyway. Mario and Spider-Man should be great too of course.

I wouldn't say it's the worst, but it would be nice if the "puzzles" were anything that someone that was old enough to play the original on release would have to think about... at all. For an example, here's the one that made me pause and start typing this:

There is a sleeping Graveler. Which berry should you use?
A Chesto Berry, which awakens sleeping Pokemon.
A Durin Berry, which is used as an ingredient to make Pokeblocks.
A Wacan Berry, which provides protection from Electric-type attacks.

This is in chapter 4. I did not add the descriptions.

Like, I know this is a Pokemon game and I shouldn't expect Phoenix Wright levels of deduction or anything, but this is just use key on lock. I watched an LP of the original to refresh my memory, and it had a pretty basic logic puzzle in chapter 2 to figure out which pokemon is in which cave, and that would've required more brain power than anything so far.

I tried to play Detective Pikachu for the first time in August in anticipation of the sequel coming out and dropped it after a few chapters because the puzzles are so nothing it just became boring to play. And the mystery aspects never really developed beyond Phoenix Wright tutorial levels. So, I figured if the sequel is more of that, I should give it a miss and seems like it was the right choice.

Definitely a series that could use a difficulty option.

Finished DPR. Okay yeah it was pretty bad.
