For the record I'm not worried about myself here as I have a secondary source of income if it comes to that (not particularly high paying but it was never meant to sustain me in the first place) but it does make me sad for all the military enlisted who will have to press on without any pay. National defense doesn't stop just because the money did, unfortunately.

And things are even worse for reservists. Most likely our active duty will get back pay. But Reserve gets paid only if theyre on orders. They wont get orders with no budget, and theres no back pay for orders that didnt happen.

For example, Fleet Week was supposed to happen in San Francisco next week. That requires a lot of support, including from reservists who may have already taken time off from other jobs to ensure they were available. If Fleet Week doesnt happen, they get nothing. Lots of other examples too. Many units were waiting for the new fiscal year to draw up orders because last years funds were used up.
