I've been on Finasteride, Minoxidil, and Keto Shamo since I was 21-22. I'm 30 years old.

I take Fin every single day. With minox, once a day. Keto Shampoo twice a week. Throughout these years, there have been times where I missed a day, or 3 days due to lazyness.

In my 18's-20, I was Norwood One. Had a full set of hair, great hairline, et cetera. Around 21-22, I noticed hair loss and caught it early to the point where the derm prescribed fin.

At 30 years old, I still have a decent amount of hair. But it's also clear that there is thinning at the back of my head. With hairline recession. I would consider myself a Norwood 3.5-NW4. But because I have longer curly hair, it tends to hide thinness to an extent

So yes, they worked I would say. Slowed the hair loss down. For a comparison, my father was bald at this age

Once upon a time I used Propecia. It mostly worked in the sense it slowed down the loss, but I definitely wasn't growing anything back. Eventually gave it up because it was expensive and I couldn't give blood on it.

it has reduced efficacy after prolonged use
you either need to up your dose or switch to dutasteride which is a lot more effective, but not currently approved by the FDA to treat hairloss. you can get it from online services like hims and strut though. i get mine through my primary care doctor, but he's chill AF and researched it while I sat there with him

I was on finasteride for awhile. Didn't need it anymore once the HRT nuked my testosterone. I did get the loss of libido, which just felt like a bump in mental clarity since I wasn't thinking about sex all the time anymore.

I was very early on with very little thinning, but it prevented it from getting worse. ymmv

I used to but you have to use it regularly for life and the products aren't cheap. The hair that grew also didn't look right either.

Tbh the only real cure for balding is a hair transplant surgery.

However finasteride also has the potential to cause permanent reduced sperm count and impotence.

any hair transplant surgeon is going to put you on finasteride because you will continue to bald otherwise. the transplant only corrects what has already been lost, and you cant come back from a full horseshoe

When it comes to ED though, a non zero chance is gonna deter a lot of people despite the odds

ssris do the same thing but theres not a stigma against those (for sexual health related matters anyways)

I dunno if stigma is the right word here.

I'd probably prioritize my mental health and well being over my libido, but not my hair.

wym
men seeking hairloss treatment is absolutely stigmatized, to the point that private teleheath services are far and away the most popular method of getting a prescription.

and tbh your post kinda proves that point, implying that hairloss should be prioritized less than other health factors. if a woman had androgenic alopecia would anyone sleight her for seeking treatment, with or without potentially serious side effects?

I mean I'm just saying for me personally.

I'd risk ED if I needed SSRI

I wouldn't risk ED if I was straight up balding. I'm thinking a bit around the crown but I'm also 38.
