I thought this was going to be something like something with an automatic gratuity at an expensive store. Bitch, you're getting Doordash. Call The shop ahead of time to arrange a pickup, or pay somebody a gratuity to deliver it for you. If you don't want to pay the tip, don't order.

Delivery fee plus theyre hiding additional fees in fees and taxes which is some Ticketmaster shit

if people stop tipping on top of that, people will stop driving for doordash and theyll change their shitty policies

Not how that works. It's not the consumers responsibility to find an alternative just because you feel there's a moral obligation to.

The only thing the consumer is actually responsible to pay for is the price set by company. Not anything more, not anything less.

Regardless of how much you feel one has a moral obligation to foot an extra charge for a companies payroll, tips are 100% are not actually required by the consumer.

Tipping culture is exploitative and repulsive. If delivery is going to cost $10, just say upfront that delivery costs $10.

Tonight, I am going to order an Indian takeaway from a local restaurant. There is no delivery fee (just a minimum purchase), and the driver (a guy called Ray) does not take payments.

If the company built in the price of the tip then you guys would complain the company is making tips mandatory, so that's why it's honestly insincere when you guys say it's not your problem it's the company's problem

I want them to pay their workers a reasonable wage, and if that means raising prices, I am happy to pay it.

It's not at all uncommon in the UK for restaurants to include the service charge in the bill.

If the company "built in the price of the tip" then it wouldn't be a tip, it would just be the standardized price for a delivery based on distance and that would be a much better system.

No "WE" won't.

The resteraunt can price their services whatever price they want, provided they are upfront what it costs to use their product/services. I wouldn't have a complaint here as they can't make me buy from them. If I want to purchase their services/products I will assess whether I want to buy it or not and pay exactly what I am required to pay.

The bottom line is, it's not the consumers responsibility or obligation to cover Uber or a resteraunts payroll. Nor is it actually required. Nor is it the consumers responsibility to find an alternative. Not here to "fight the system" as the system doesn't require me of anything but paying what's on the receipt.

Ive said it before, if a place doesnt have in house delivery, I get my own food, dine in, or whatever. But, if I am drunk or high I kinda just make do with whats in the fridge even if its scraps at that time.

I have no problem with tipping culture. I tip well when I go out. But ever since the beginning I have been against door dash because there's just too many problems associated with it. If a pizza place fucks up, I call them back, explain, get a coupon, refund, remade meal, etc. If I have problems with Door Dash, I can't call the place I ordered from, I then have to deal with Door Dash customer service, which just sounds awful. I don't need a third party company to make things shittier and overcomplicate things.

that's the other problem with it. you have to 'tip' before you even get your food. it's just another delivery fee, not a tip

Like someone else in this topic pointed out, many companies don't even show you what the tip is until after the delivery.

Pretty sure Doordash, Grubhub, and Uber Eats give customers the option of tipping at order creation and once the order us sent to a driver they can see up front what the tip would be. They do this to entice drivers to accept the order, because without the incentive being known up front the driver is less likely to accept it. The only caveat to that is the customer still retains the ability to alter the tip amount even after receiving the delivery.

The option to to tip early is not your final tip as you admit in your own post. The option to tip early =/= making you tip. Especially since you can change it in some.

Which even more so is beyond the point that orders are still accepted even if an initial "no tip" order is on the table. Like I said, those apps absolutely do not make you tip and orders with no/bad tips are most definitely still accepted.

No everyone is going around committing felonies by tampering with the food, or not taking the order at all. Regardless if your order is not the cream of the crop pick to take.

The hidden costs are puzzling.

Consider this: Food from DoorDash already costs more, with consumers paying $13 for a $10 item. On top of that, there's a $5 delivery fee, but it's unclear how this benefits the driver. To add to the confusion, consumers are expected to tip as well. This leaves many wondering why the food costs more and why the delivery fee doesn't seem to benefit the driver. It's a perplexing situation for those who choose to tip. And this person tipped, they just don't know that is going on.
