The only Amazon river dolphins I know of are these pinkish ones. The picture in the article shows a bottlenose dolphin so not sure if those live there too or if someone just grabbed a dead dolphin pic that looks cuter.

Damn is this true.

If that one kid deserves life in prison, few years of torture, or death sentence for cutting down 1 famous celeb tree (i disagree with these type of punishments but that what some ppl says online). Then all of us beef eaters should have to do community service at the very least. It makes a lot of sense to me.

I assume the place that is supplying the pic (all the places I found with a quick google are using the same pic) either had a mix up or are intentionally supplying an image with a more photogenic dolphin species then the Boto

Brazil is the 2nd largest beef producer in the world and the largest exporter. There has been a lot of praise recently for Brazil slowing down Amazon deforestation, but the dirty little secret is they're just deforesting the Cerrado instead.

Actually plantations for growing human food are a major factor in deforestation. Also making room for urban development.

If the whole world became vegan shit would still be chopped down. We'd need even more land to grow crops.

Even your own source cites cattle ranching as one of the primary causes. Though for some reason they don't mention soybeans (Brazil's 2nd largest crop) and doesn't give percentages for anything outside of mentioning that logging is the 2nd largest destroyer of the rainforest.

I'm not saying that there aren't other causes, but meat (especially beef) is the elephant in the room. Everyone wants to save the rainforest, but few people are willing to make the sacrifice that would require. If we stopped destroying the Amazon for meat either less meat needs to be consumed or some other ecosystem will need destroyed.

I never said it wasn't. But to say rich assholes would have no reason to destroy the rainforest if it wasn't for meat isn't accurate.

And the point I'm making is they wouldn't have to destroy anywhere near as much if it weren't for meat. They simply wouldn't be able to make use of that much land because nothing is as land-intensive as meat production. Humans use more land for animal agriculture than any other human activity by a wide margin. Half of the world's habitable land is used for agriculture, and 77% of that is used for animal agriculture. By contrast urban development uses about 1%.

People eating meat isn't causing the destruction of the rainforests/environment, it's that society is extremely wasteful. Tons of meat is thrown out after a day because either people didn't buy it or "it's no longer fresh", and companies wouldn't dare give out food for free. Then there are the people who need to eat huge slabs of meat all the time.

All of that contributes to meat, as a resource, being consumed irresponsibly. If society wasn't so wasteful, we wouldn't need 1.5B cows and 25-33B chickens alive at the same time. Just the US alone wastes this much:
