I'm surprised this topic is still going.

Just bought a few tickets while I was at the gas station. If I won I would definitely take the monthly option. Almost sixty million a year for basically the rest of my life? Feels like it would be hard to go wrong. >.>

Still might as well take lump sum since there is apparently a chance your family won't get the rest of the money.

Also the lotti s at 1.7 billion but you don't actually get that. You're losing more than half to taxes. Right now the cash option is 757 million. NOT a bad problem to have though lol.

The annuity option pays out annually over 30 years, with the first payment being the smallest and the last payment the largest. You wont see the overwhelming vast majority of the money for several decades.

Haha, yea, and diversification of assets / investments is also about protecting your money. Like when they say dont put all your eggs in one basket.

The lump sum is the jackpot; the 1.7 billion is an estimate of how much it could become in 30 years if they invest for you. For taxes, you will have to pay about 37%.

State lotteries tend to be better deals than PB and MM because of much better odds and tickets are cheaper.

noone won the Powerball because folks in South Carolina and Virginia took a break from buying powerball tickets which Im relieved. They always frikkin win a powerball every time

I'm usually not one to believe in conspiracy theories, but it seems odd that California keeps "winning" Powerball record jackpots. Last year, when they had that "security issue", that delayed the picks, and then someone in California won the $2 billion jackpot, which is where Powerball's headquarters are located, and then again, someone in California won, and now a third (I believe straight) time someone in California won? And it was a single winner? What are the odds? 45 states plus DC, and somehow one state wins three straight times? Come on, folks. Something smells fishy, and for once, it isn't from Capitol Hill....

CA has a population of almost 40 million people. Were always going to have better odds just by the numbers.

I got 3 numbers right. Two were out of order.

The order doesnt matter. You won some $$. Unless you mean one of your regular numbers matched the Power number.

Florida has about 20 million
New York has about 18.5 million

Yeah, the order doesnt matter (except for the powerball.) The tickets always print them out from lowest to highest. If you matched 5 numbers, that is potentially $1 million prize.

When you get the ticket at the store, they usually have scanners customers can use to check if you win anything. I always use that before throwing them out.

You can also download the app and scan tickets with that to check if they won

Random is random and repetition is random to a computer. A human may try to force random, but then it wouldn't truly be random.

The winning numbers are picked randomly, and I also dont see the point of them picking Cali residents anyway if that were the case. Theres nothing in it for them.

and to think 2 other tickets from Cali were 1 number short. I find that odd. As unlikely as ts supposed to be to get these numbers once again its Cali and they damn near had 2 more get it.

Well looking at the Powerball draw numbers, California consistently sells more tickets than any other state. So it makes sense that our odds of winning are slightly higher. After that it's just luck.

A lot of people came really close though. Multiple states had people that won with 5 numbers, only missing the Powerball. Florida had 2 people that matched 5 numbers, New York had 4, Pennsylvania had 1, and so on.
