damn so far all my predictions are going horribly
that's what i get for not paying attention to the regular season this year
It's pretty easy to have a couple really crap games in a row and that's all it takes to seal your doom. Tough to predict these things.

exhibit A why baseball playoffs are so insanely volatile

with the bases loaded matt chapman juiced a ball down the line that was legit like an inch foul, he ends up grounding into a double play. legit a 3-4 run swing based on that one inch.

in the regular season you just go, well it's not our day. onto the next of several hundred. in the playoffs, there might not be a next game

Rays out. Brewers out. Marlins most likely about to be out. Man, this sucks. I guess whoever wins the Orioles/Rangers ALDS is the team that I'm bandwagoning for the rest of the playoffs. Arizona or Minnesota are fine, I don't like the Phillies, Braves, or Dodgers, and I'm actively boycotting any and all games that the cheating Astros play in this postseason because I'm so fucking sick of those scumbag pieces of shit.

Yeah, the Cubs probably should of been in there over the Marlins. They imploded way faster than I thought.

As a Braves fan, I'm more scared of the Phillies than the Dodgers. Playing the Phillies is like a back street brawl. The Dodgers is like playing chess where we just go by the numbers and we'll beat them in a 7 game series.

You can only spew that "good at winning close games" and "best record in baseball in 1-run games" bullshit for so long before people realize that a -55 (EDIT: -57 actually, I forgot the 2 runs from the cancelled Mets game didn't count) run differential for the season is just bad. As happy as I was to see them make it, the Marlins really didn't belong in the playoffs. Then again, if they also weren't so ravaged by injuries later in the season (especially the biggest one of losing Sandy Alcantara) then maybe things might have been different. Maybe Sandy pitches a great game 1 and the Marlins ride that momentum. But alas, we'll never know.

Yes, they have tenacity. If they DO beat the Braves again this year, I'll root for them over the Twins or the Orioles just because I have loyalty to my division and I WANT the team that beat us to be absulote best overall in a bracket. I think that makes sense?

at least the Dbacks have some really good players. Carroll is a stud, Christian Walker is one of the most underrated players in the sport tbh, ketel marte is still good. with gallen they're a very top-heavy team but they at least have those guys where theoretically in the postseason depth matters less

the marlins didn't have any player break the 4 fWAR barrier. their 2nd most valuable position player was Jon fucking Berti LMAO. I understand they've been carried by their arms (and luck) all season and no Alcantara and Eury Perez was a big blow, but that is just not a good team by any measurement

thats just the nature of baseball though. i mean the athletics won a series vs the braves this year. are they better? of course not. just like the dbacks aren't better than anyone else in the field.

this why you keep the playoff pool small so that you don't get mediocre teams making runs, thus incentivizing teams to just be mediocre and barely spend on payroll since you only need to win 84 games to sneak in and get a lucky dice roll.

The 2006 Cardinals are still the kings of anything can happen in the playoffs. They snuck in with a .516 winning percentage because the rest of the division was even worse, and won the whole thing.

So you only want rich teams like the Yankees, Dodgers, and Red Sox making the playoffs every year? That's lame and boring. Give me a mid market teams like the Dbacks on a hot streak any day over the big spenders

Yep, sometimes teams just get hot at the right time. The Marlins did the same thing in both of their WS title runs in 1997 and 2003 after making it in as a wild card with low expectations both times.

its more of a labor thing. you realize that teams like the rays and o's that exploit young pre-arb players making zero dollars and then never give extensions to them are bad for players, fans since players they like leave in FA, and ultimately the entire sport, right?

anyway maybe to satisfy you we can play the entire regular season and then ignore the results because you want a mediocre team to win, then do a bracket with all 30 teams to see who is world series champ. would that make you happy? the probability of a team winning with a greedy owner, a payroll below the luxury tax, and front office that is run by a bunch of sociopathic ivy leaguers would be astronomically high!!!! hooray!!!
