I saw a bit about this game, the thing is, it clearly has some talented artists and animators working on it... it's a shame because if they had just presented this better and made some design changes it seems like it could have been great.

Also, the lead artists seem to have a style of their own but trying to copy that early 20th century Cuphead-like aesthetic seems pretty crass and gained it attention as well as hate. No one owns the rights to "run and gun" gameplay, but it's clear they were trying to sell this game to cash in on Cuphead hype.

I watched a full game review of this game yesterday. The guy concluded that while the devs (a two-person team) clearly had the ideas and ambition, they lacked the talent to actually put together a good game. They did get funding from another source after their Kickstarter campaign failed, but either the money wasn't enough, and/or they were now obligated to get the game out by a certain time (there are only six levels, and the last level of the game is just a boss rush against bosses that they were not able to fully complete).

Also, the game randomly generates it's level layouts, which results in large parts of the levels being bland hallways with tons of enemy spam.

How does the shield work?
It looks like it stays up for a pretty good amount of time, if you can spam it then that would trivialize a lot of the difficulty

That's what I was thinking. I watched the final boss fight and the shield really made a joke out of everything except the last phase. Even the last phase is just hold fire button, jump jump dash jump, repeat.
