take for you to sign another contract and move to another city? Like if the total contract another team offered you was 300k more that your current team offered you...almost all of you would leave in that scenario?

Id stay loyal to the team that drafted me regardless of money if they were making a clear and obvious effort to build a championship team. If they werent then id probably just take whatever contract my hometown Celtics offered me and retire there. No matter what im gonna have stupid millions of dollars so that probably matters the least.

You would do this? Prob the vast majority of athletes wouldn't . Even if they really liked their current team if it was over like 15 mil or something. A small percentage.

I guess it depends how much I'm currently making and how much I enjoy the city.

Depends.

Partly it's the money, but partly it's the career. Would I stand more chance of winning trophies if I switched teams? (Probably more applicable to football (soccer) than US sports where playing in the Champions League would be a big draw).

Other factors would be club loyalty, family upheaval, whether or not I wanted to live in the city, how much playing time I would get, what I thought of the coaching staff.

If I was in the NFL it would depend on the team, cause there's one team that I'd flat refuse to play for no matter the money. But in any other professional league I'd follow the money for a 10% or better increase in salary.

I have a strong sense of loyalty. Unless my current team is drastically underpaying me, I'd stick with them.

Well yeah, but the topic asked what I would personally do. I always choose loyalty to a good organization over money.

Once you get past a certain number, monetarily, you then focus on what YOU want out of your career.

Do you just chase the ring? Do you want to become a local legend? Or do you want to just constantly be in the spot most advantageous to your own success?

I would be chasing rings. With enough wins, my post-playing career would have to have some real lucrative deals behind it just by being known as a "championship-caliber" player. This rests on me not sucking of course.

There are so many factors that would go into it. How much do I like my current city and the one I'm potentially moving to? How do I feel about how the organizations are run? My role/opportunity for playing time? Chances to win?

Pretty dependent on what Im currently being paid.

Going from 50k to 350k would be a big deal, but going from 20 million to 20.3 is not so much a deal.

Which sport is this?

Football: I'd play for the team I support

Basketball, handegg, rugby, etc: i'd want to play for the most successful teams but if a team at the same level offered me a better contract I'd take it

Assuming I was already on the team for my home town, I wouldn't leave. Even at the low end of salaries, I'd make enough to never want for anything. Like the average NBA salary right now is 9.5 million. I can't imagine feeling like I need to take an extra 1-2 million

Assuming I love where I am and have no desire to leave regardless of the team's performance, I'd stay as long as the money I'm making on my current team is reasonable, and by reasonable I mean in comparison to what other players of similar caliber are making. So like if I do well and am expected to get a pay increase for my next contract, I'd stay as long as I don't get lowballed. I wouldn't let my contract be a reference point for other franchises to offer players less money.

If I'm absolutely happy with my current team (i.e., sufficient playing time, reliable/goo teammates, competent coaching, and winning/routinely competing) then it would take at least double my market value to get me to move. Loyalty is awesome and all but if someone is willing to give me "crazy money" to suit up for them for a couple of years, I'd have very few qualms about turning them down. I wouldn't fuck with anything overseas but I'd play just about anywhere in N/A for the right price.

This. If the place I'm currently living/playing is not something I like, then the money wouldn't matter that much.
