We should have all kinds of cool new stuff. Did we just give up? Invent something!

No we haven't given up. However there are people holding us back. Now I doubt we would have developed much quicker if there was no holding back innovation but who knows.

Unfortunately, we'll probably not see anything truly revolutionary (in terms of the kinds of things you can find in a sci fi movie) in our lifetimes, :/

I joke with coworkers/friends that we dont even need to hang out. You can immediately text me anything literally whenever yet no one gives a shit. Like we dont even have to call, we can just text.

My coworkers/friends hate texting.....

Hold on, let me put my wireless controller playing a game with realistic 3d graphics down and pick up my handheld satellite GPS enabled communication device so I can browse to this forum on our instantly accessible global data and entertainment platform to reply.

I should add: For someone that grew up in the 80s and 90s... the new tech is here, it just came upon us gradually. The shit we have now surpasses Star Trek TNG and even Next Generation era in some regards (video cell phones) and went in completely different directions in other ways... instead of flying cars we got helicopters and electric vehicles.

What futuristic technology do you want? We have a lot of great stuff already (and you may be taking them for granted). Smartphones, internet, self-driving cars, AI, GPS navigation, advanced medicine, etc. We have an early form of holograms too right?

Do you want flying cars? Floating cities? I wouldn't mind flying cars. I wouldn't mind an infinite source of energy too. Space travel needs to happen faster as well.

We obviously haven't advanced at the pace that humanity does in Sci Fi, but we have a lot of cool technology compared to say, the 90's.

Like with mobile phones, this was what they looked like at first

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/7/7/AAQgjdAAE6NB.jpg

Cellphones are futuristic as hell compared to that brick.

Cars have also advanced a lot. We don't have fully self driving cars yet or anything. But adaptive cruise control maintains a set speed, and it will brake on it's own of it detects a car getting too close ahead. Combine that with lane assist, which auto steers the car to keep it within a lane, and there's really minimal input required from the driver on long drives. And this technology available on Hondas, Toyotas etc., (take that Elon) so we're getting there.

Thats what regulation does, institutionalize and protect current industry.
Who do you think writes the regulations, it's the industry leaders through lobbyists.
