Growing up Methodist the church discouraged alcohol in a better safe than sorry sort of way against alcoholism. A pastor of mine actually had issues with my dad drinking but it was because he used it as an excuse to never be home. Even so dad was never excommunicated from the church or refused communion (not that he went much anyway). --- Beware the fanatic! The other day someone brought up the great flood that killed mankind the response from someone else was 'you have to break a few eggs to make an omelette' and I'm sure there can be found a passage to support that. Alcohol is backsliding. Even pepperoni is. it's not excommunication but it is really bad and sort of permanent because people talk and these people tell all their friends.
