Comes off less creepy when i take it as Leon...has no adult skills - all he knows/good at is killing by his own admission, and mitilda...has daddy issues, and it makes sense that she would grow romantic feelings for a mentor/caretaker. What saves it is the movie stops before going too far, and leon making a direct rejection. I can see it as a trained killer gaining humanity with a legit bond with a surrogate daughter rather some creepy fantasy put to the big screen. No matter how many times i watch, i'm fascinated by the professionalism Leon preaches in the cleaning business despite his nature. He prioritizes teaching the rules first before anything else...Wonder how accurate the depiction of hitman are in how they follow that stuff. Saw true crime stories of real life hitman being hired to kill wives, but alot of the time the husband was set up with a cop pretending to be one. That's what I mean by Jean Reno saving the movie, because he apparently refused to play it out like Luc Besson's semi autobiographical pedo experience and acts in the film more like a cold killer who forms a fatherly, confused bond with this equally confused girl. Probably because in Orphan she's actively pursuing him. In Leon I always saw it as more of an unrequited crush that turns into more of a father/daughter relationship.
