When my brother went to college, his entire class schedule was printed in military time. He was too embarrassed to ask someone what it meant (and the internet was brand new), so he just sat in his dorm and missed a week of class before he talked to me and I told him the deal.

I still give him crap about that decades later.

24 hour format is superior

Ever since I was actually in the military I prefer it. Any digital clock in my house that allows for a 24 hr format I set it that way. Ive been using this format since 1994 now. Almost 30 years. Also our logbook at work uses it. It just helps prevent confusion as to when something happened. This is useful in a place that has 24/7 operations.

i grew up in a military household so i already knew 24 hour time

when i worked graveyard shifts, 24h time came in handy because sometimes itd be hard to tell whether its daytime or evening when i wake up

one glance at the clock tells me everything

That's honestly 99% of time it is referred to as. I don't know anyone who just calls it 24-hour clock and this topic is honestly the first time I have heard it referred to it as that. So

It's not called anything but a clock elsewhere in the world. It's the standard, so when you see a clock or a person using 12:15 PM, then they are using "American time." Whereas everyone else is just using "time".

I meant the specifics of using 24 hour time, not what a clock is. But really, I had no idea it was just an American thing. Guess I just never been in a conversation with someone not an American about time before

yea easily. i have to for work but even before that it's super easy to figure out.

my works time is weirder though. they always go by 100 clicks instead of 60 minutes for an hour. so like 1250 would be 12:30pm. that takes more thinking to figure out if it's not at a simple point to figure out the minute but still simple enough to get close to the real time.

I have the reverse, whenever seeing people talk about pm/am always have to take a sec to convert (being European). Comes almost intuitively after a while but not as much as just reading 22:00 as 10 in the evening instantly
