that's more or less the time i stopped following ER and it does jump the shark here and there.

the thing about the character is that he was respected but nobody was really supposed to like him so there was like only one person that came to his funeral or something iirc

Scrubs is literally a comedy, and yet you're having to attempt to pick out very specific instances where it was less realistic than ER (and not even all that much so, since you admitted ER also played it up, though for drama instead of laughs). While completely glossing over literal events like the same doctor being affected by TWO helicopter incidents.

C'mon. That should tell you everything.

Honestly, I stopped watching a year or 2 ago because the facts on the show are too depressing.

Not blaming the show, more the world in general.

From what I understand, what Scrubs gets right is how it is to work in a hospital like doing rounds, dealing with the administration and all that, how you kind of close yourself off to your patients' suffering out of necessity, that kind of thing.

I've never watched ER, but I imagine it's more "I WILL SPEND THE NEXT TWENTY MINUTES RESUSCITATING THIS PATIENT GODDAMMIT AND THEN HE'LL LIVE AND BE FINE."

Wym? From what I remember it didn't work and the guy woke up screaming? Although a quick google search seems to indicate hypnosis IS used in some cases, but in additional to actual anesthesia so still not inaccurate.

I've also seen many doctors comment that Scrubs is very accurate in terms of the hospital system and how decision making is delegated.

I'm not sure about ER, but Scrubs actually had doctors on its production staff which helped keep thing generally accurate.

She woke up halfway through the procedure and started screaming. Though Turk making it halfway through surgery using only hypnosis was treated by Dr. Kelso and Carla as a a good thing.

I think the helicopter is by far the most ridiculous thing they did. Next to that, the only thing I can think of is blowing up the front desk or ambulance bay once a season in the early seasons as an excuse to remodel it. I feel like it tried to portray itself fairly seriously.

It's not even an original idea. It was a retread from LA Law with another hated character's ignominious death, when she randomly fell down an elevator shaft for shock value.

I dunno if I'd agree with that. She makes it halfway through an appendectomy and Kelso even says Turk could write a paper on it. And I'm hazier about this, but I think Kelso also kind of scoffs at Cox being so dismissive about the idea.

Yeah the first few seasons of er are great watches, season 7 is where I stopped and Romano dying with that dumb helicopter bit was when the show jumped the shark

Yeah, I should have clarified. Scrubs isn't necessarily super accurate on the actual specific medicinal stuff, but none of the shows in question really are. Where Scrubs is accurate is in the way it portrays hospital settings/what doctors have to deal with on a daily basis/etc. Several people quoted me explaining why, too many to requote, but... Yeah, you get the idea. Scrubs never goes too far in the "This situation is entirely BS" direction, or if it ever does, it makes it clear it's a JD daydream. ER had several... Questionable scenes, to that effect.
