Let's see if I actually stick to this thread.

Been wanting to play this since it came out and now that I got my laptop back, I finally am. Currently on the first world after the shipyard and I'm trying to figure out where in the hell save point #5 is.

They said this was a Metroid style game and they weren't kidding. I am a huge fan of both SW and Metroid, so this is like a love letter to child me. So far I am loving the game. And even the combat is nice. What kind of upgrades are in this game? Is it the same general thing as Metroid?

As for everything else, the game is gorgeous, no doubt about that. Though I think it is ridiculous that the intro takes what feels like a full minute before you get to the title screen, and it isn't skippable; I ended up installing a mod that removes most of it. Cal seems like an alright character so far but he's no Kyle Katarn.

I recall getting some upgrades so you could go back later and explore more of a planet. More ways to climb higher, new ways to unlock doors. You also get some new force techniques, which are mostly for combat, but I believe pushing/pulling can also be used to get through a level as well.

I just landed on Zaffo or whatever it's called. This game is just fun as hell, and I love the intense controller rumblings. Combat is very satisfying because of it. Definitely an immersive game.

It's a decent game to play through on its own, but I think it's kind of terrible in terms of a Metroidvania. The biggest issue is that there's no sort of fast travel, so if you want to backtrack to unlock a secret, it's just a fucking nightmare because you basically have to play the entire level over again.

But it's the same way in every Metroid game.

But in Metroid games, the subzones connect to one another in various ways that give you shortcuts.

In Fallen Order, the different planets obviously don't do that, there are little-to-no shortcuts, and you always start in the same landing spot.

The map is also just absolutely abysmal.

Well that's kind of a bummer.

I found an instant travel mod that I considered installing. It can absolutely break the game if you use it wrong though.

You do unlock shortcuts through the world, but the maps still have a lot of backtracking regardless.

The sequel helps fix a lot of the issues mentioned in this topic.

How or when does this game save? And what's the difference between Continue and Load Journey? I keep losing progress every time I quit.

The game said it's not the only time the game saves, so that threw me off. Thanks.

There's a bench on your ship I believe.

It has a couple of random auto-saves during plot bits, IIRC. That's what it's talking about.

And you can customize on every planet.

Played through earlier this year, I think. It was alright (I'm not a big SW fan or anything), but the backtracking did get annoying after awhile. Most levels do have shortcuts to unlock, even if the convenience ends up slighter than one would want.

Does anyone know offhand how to get off of Zaffo? Now I'm starting to see what you guys mean about the backtracking. For some reason, I can't get the fast travel mod to work.

You just go back to the ship. If that doesn't work then you missed something.

I'm saying I have no clue how to get back to the ship lol. The map isn't particularly helpful. I doubt anyone can help me here, it's a very specific issue.

Ah.

Well, I can't really say too much there. I kind of vaguely remember the route but not really in a way that would really help.

I remember getting back to the ship on Zaffo (the first planet, right?) by:

  • climbing a weed (?) wall near an early savepoint
  • [you probably don't have this power yet] wall-running somewhere near the weird frog boss cave
  • [you probably don't have this power yet] doing the reverse zipline at some point

I think there's also a cave you can reach by using hanging vines or something, and you can get onto an upper story and emerge back on level with the highest cliffs. I think it's the same cave where you can check some old Jedi's knick-knacks by stopping the spinning fan. Maybe that rings a bell.

Go to the place you were supposed to, the bigass hill with the tomb in it.

Go down the mud path, when you reach the bottom look towards your ten o'clock.

You'll see an area with like three frogs, there's a spot there with a fossil buried in the wall and a door to get you back to the meditation point.

From there I think you have BD take a rope down, but there's also a spot you can jump down in that area you might not have checked.

Zaffo's the second planet.

Thanks for the help, I'll try again in a bit.

Ahh, after looking at some screens, I remember now. I think you can backtrack to the start manually at first, but if you go too far, you have to go all the way around into a cavern system. Lots of one-way slides in this level.

There should be an elevator down there (near a sniper position, I think) that takes you up to mid-level, then maybe another that goes up towards the landing site. Get used to the elevators that go down into the cave -- you'll probably need to go that route several times if you're searching for secrets and stuff.

My bad.

Have you been to the tomb on Zeffo yet?

It triggers a bunch of air vents you use for jumping.

Then yeah, the easiest way is from the tomb.

Use the air blast things in the area outside the tomb to jump onto the structure at the bottom middle, then follow that path up and through the wall.

You see a probe droid, right way.

That'll set you more or less on the right direction but I can't remember the next steps well enough to tell you further.

Turns out I hadn't finished solving the puzzle in the tomb yet. I'm now making my way out.

I don't even mind the backtracking so far, because killing the shit out of things is just so fun. The rumble function is adding a lot to the experience too.

Nevermind. The backtracking is actually starting to get annoying. I'm stuck again -_-

Seriously, why is getting back to your ship a science project? I'm back at the turbine facility, and the only route to my ship leads to a gap I cannot cross. If need be, I'll take a pic. If I take the turbine route, all it does is eventually lead me right back to the tomb.

If I go down to that village, I can't get across. But on my map it looks like that's the only way back to the ship.

There are shortcuts back to the ship through the village.

Check the doors along the far wall from where you are, I'm almost positive one of them is openable.

If the issue is a gap there should be a pipe you can utilize on the far side of the building in front of you and to the left. Might have to Push it, I can't quite recall.

There was a door I missed that I had to break open with Push. I may love to complain, but I'm still really enjoying this game. It's on par with Jedi Outcast.
