Went to the mall a few weeks ago. There were a lots of people, unsurprisingly.

I still go there occasionally.

Greenwood, Indiana still has an active mall. It emptied out for a few weeks last year after a shooting took place in the food court. (Two people were killed before a good guy with a gun fatally wounded the shooter.) Attendance bounced back though and it's still going strong.

Come to think of it, I might catch lunch there tomorrow. I might see what some of the mini-shops have available for Halloween.

Where I live the major player in the shopping mall game knows what to do to keep them alive.

I never went often, but people do still go. A lot.

There is a Thai food place I enjoy at the mall. I go there every few months, but every time I do the place is busy as hell.

One mall in the area I figure is still going strong enough but has had a lot of gang violence (but no real big shootings at least thankfully). They instituted a rule that youths had to be attended by an older guardian during week days awhile ago. That may not be strictly enforced but It's not like this mall is in the city, but somehow it was a gathering spot for some trouble many a time.

The mall I still work at (at the same fucking department retail store for some reason for too long) is mostly dead af, but there's still a Barnes and Noble, Hot Topic, Best Buy some local stores that are alright.

Humorous thing this mall is losing tons of stores to the plaza across the street. Outdoor plazas are back, obviously malls have been on a downward spiral.

I went to one on Tuesday.

My brother in Christ, 200 dollar jeans and wolf shirts.
plus I can go into the bathrooms to change after I make my purchases.
after I change, its just a brisk walk to the food court to impress all the ladies.

Malls were always soulless consumption centers. Just because more people went to them out of convenience or because of lack of alternatives, doesn't make them a sacred institution. I went to one a couple of weeks ago and there were quite a few people there. It wasn't packed, but the experience is better when it isn't packed anyway.

I go to a nearby mall one or twice a year to go to the attached Dave and Busters.

The mall itself it nigh abandoned.

I can remember malls in the 80s, the defining decade for them. But I was under 10, and wasn't part of "mall culture ".

The local outdoor mall is still busy as ever.

The one I used to go to I stopped going to when the arcade AND the book store closed down one after the other. Well, I guess that and the Sears wasn't there anymore.

The two malls closest to me in SoCal are always packed.

I'd say malls are contracting. A lot of malls were too close and cannibalized each other's sales. There's other problems too like traditional anchors being unreliable compared to other department stores and large service institutions. Amazon didn't help but they aren't the biggest problem with malls or even retail in general.

The nearest one I can think of took so long to be bulldozed that it opened up again.

I went today to see a movie and then I did a lap around the entire mall to get my fat ass the tiniest bit of exercise.

Shit like Mall of America, West Edmonton Mall, Scottsdale Fashion Square and so on aren't going anywhere.

Local malls are hit and miss. In my hometown there's only two malls left that have regular foot traffic. The other three are either graveyards, or have converted to strip malls.

The mall near me is still popular

The mall company near me does big and small malls like that.

I havent been to my local mall in a while. Not much there I want to buy, and the few things there are is way overpriced on top of there being very little to do. Also most of the restaurants have gone out of business as well.

And even if those weren't the case its very far from my residential areas so just going there to walk around and relax browse generally isnt worth it.
