The intricacies of his combos made him closer to a living version of the game than everyone else. You can tell the way he looked at skating was way different, and continued to do so through his career and coming back from injury. Rodney does his Ollie on June 27th 1982 in a competition. Thrasher featured a cover of Rodney doing an ollie in October 1982 issue https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/6/2/AAZsuhAAE76K.jpg Its still possible there is a pic of an ollie on Thrasher the year before.
