Yes, they absolutely should.

they need to make games tied to your account and let you download any to each new system. like all the games i bought on ps3 i should be able to play on the ps5. i shouldn't have to turn on my ps3 just to play my old digital games. xbox is so much better about it.

nintendo is the absolute worse with it and wish they'd start doing it. instead they're just basically encouraging piracy for anyone that wants to play any old games that aren't on the nes/snes/etc switch online. just go back to the wii store and let you buy everything that companies put up there. i'm sure sega and neo geo and everything would gladly put their stuff on the switch store and take their cut for each game that gets bought.

That would require Sony to make a PS3 emulator or to basically port the games to PS4 or PS5. Well that or let you play them via the cloud. Regardless, it would be an expense for Sony that they wouldn't really get much if any profit out of unfortunately so it's unlikely that they'd do it.

Heck, as I recall Microsoft has for a while now stopped expanding the backwards compatible list of theirs, likely for that very same reason. At least they got a good number of games working before stopping.

Nobody wants to deal with the cell processor.

Xbox 360 is easy to emulate. PS3 is anything but. That's why XB1 had BC but PS4 didn't.

PS4 and PS5 on the other hand, the PS5 is basically the same kind of hardware as PS4, just much more powerful, so BC would have been pretty trivial for them to add.
