nobody is buying that. you can buy a legit small mansion for that(at least i think you still can). they're just trying to jack the price up to make it rich people only but even in this market it should only be like $300k.

i see homes half that size go for $750K.

its ridiculous.

That's very average, and certainly shouldn't warrant a million or more dollars.

Just looked up my area, all the homes that are 2500 square feet are like 6-800k. Even saw some that were 2-3m on Zillow.

My house is like 1600 square feet, and most of my neighbors are around the same. This notion that 2600 square feet is 'average' is kinda nuts. At least in Florida, that's a fucking mansion.

Pretty much. I used to laugh at the Europeans with a small group of elites owning all the land and charging the everyone rent, but it is becoming that way in America. Just instead of Lord What'shisface owning the land, it will be Black Rock or one of these private ventures. I feel like these investment companies should be banned from buying up homes, still doesn't stop the banks, but better than nothing

Government intervention will be needed to bring prices to coherent levels. Developers only look to maximize profits which means fuck the middle class. Also developing costs are at 400k for houses like that, specially because of labor.

Have no idea how are we getting back or how are young people with normal jobs expected to get a house and start a family.

We need houses in the 150-250k range.

my house is 1800 sq ft and it is more than enough for my family

You know thinking about it, I forget other places have Basements. Florida doesn't really. We're all above ground, probably because of the sea level, idk. That makes a bit more sense why people think 2600 square feet is normal. Also wasn't including garage size.

I suppose I'm wrong here.

Basements aren't included with the square footage of home listings, the vast majority of the time anyway. As I posted with the link above, the national average is 2200. That doesn't include basements.

I think that is because Florida is a basically a bunch of swampland.

But one story homes or ranch style houses seem really popular in the western US also.

And that would be a bargain compared to buying similar in Whistler.

Like seriously, I have a pretty meh 1,300 sqft townhouse that's worth 700k that's in the Fraser Valley. I'm not in a touristy sort of location in the slightest either.

Seriously, home prices in Vancouver are among the highest in North America. Prices I see in the States? Not all that shocking to me. Only like parts of New York and California really beat us for insane housing costs.

Wife and I are even looking at buying a stand-alone house in like Chilliwack which will still run over a million and renting out our current place because we can get like 3k per month in rent for our current place.

As someone who had lived in WA annd OR for the last 20 years, only old, rich white people live in Bend. Its a highly exclusive town known for its beautiful hikes and wineries that is also a popular tourist destination. This is not surprising.

With current interest rates that's like $10k per month.

I'm glad I bought when I did. Rates were about what they are now, but housing prices were low. Now both are so high I'd never be able to afford it and be stuck in some shitty apartment until I croak.
