I must admit to having never read a Holmes book, but the man's most famous quote would suggest otherwise.

How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?

While he was a spiritualist and believer in the supernatural himself, Sherlock Holmes is a strictly logical and scientific person who usually dismisses supernatural explanations for problems

I think if Holmes can crack that Kira is killing people remotely and without assassins working under him, he'd start to consider potential supernatural options.

Whether he'd be able to figure out the Death Note specifically idk

There is of course the main issue, can Holmes figure out that Kira can kill with only a name before Kira decides Holmes is a problem that needs to be taken care of

Yeah this. I doubt most detective would be able to immediately know the existence of the death note with barely any info. But they'd at least figure out that the heart attacks were being caused by someone out there

Fair enough. My knowledge of him mostly comes from external media like comics and movies where he's more accepting of the supernatural.

Sherlock suffers from one issue. His name and face.

At least Conan Edogawa will be safe since Light couldn't kill him which would help him better than it helped L because

  1. Conan acts like a child and might 'suggest' issues
  2. I doubt Light would think that some genius high school detective could turn into a kid(which is a little ironic)

Nah, its cool, I've read a lot of him but he's definitely very logical and while I agree that its possible he'll eventually come to the conclusion, he'd die from his very clout. He's a genius but he's not capable of surviving something like that.

A lot of Sherlock Holmes mysteries are dressed up as supernatural only for him to uncover a completely mundane reason. He's kind of the OG Scooby Doo.

That said dude is notorious for coming to conclusions that don't make any fucking sense whatsoever. Like one time he found this hat and he determined by the inside of the hat that the guy had big head which meant he had a larger brain than normal which meant that he would have been intelligent enough to think about doing XYZ and lo and behold he did XYZ.

I mean...there was likely more reasons why he thought that he was intelligent? Rather than being decisive about it, he goes through several outcomes until he comes to one that might fit the right one. I don't remember that story but that's what I'll conclude from it.

I can see that happening for sure. From what little I know of him he's every bit a narcissist as Light is.

The fact that phrenology was still thought to be a legit science at the time would probably factor in as well

that's true, definitely a product of the times since, after all, Holmes is fictional lol. (even though there was a time where I thought he wasn't...)

Phrenology was in vogue at the time iirc. Thoroughly debunked and outlandish today, but when it was written it was probably trendy and cool for him to come to that conclusion. <_<
