I play what I think looks fun. The fact it is or isn't worthy of an arbitrary accolade doesn't factor into it.

I don't care about game of the year for the same reason that I don't care about the oscars + excessive advertisement not present in the former.

In general I find my own views on what makes a game/movie good rarely aligns with the views on people who make a living out of talking about them. GotY/Oscars is a breeding ground for conformity to accepted standards rather than exploring new visions or rewarding taboos.

Plus, I find the practice of comparing entertainment media based on the year they came out to be without value.
