I learned that every major film and TV franchise ever had at least one level set in NeoTokyo for... reasons.

I played and beat both Redfall and Gollum.

NASB was clearly intended to appeal to the hardcore melee fans who think they are way larger group than they actually are. Most people don't like that kind of game and prefer the more casual / laid back Smash sequels.

This is not really true. The NASB studio has made games like Slap City before, the momentum-heavy Melee style is just what they like, and they happened to score a contract for a big IP. NASB flaws weren't an issue with hubris and the game wouldn't have sold significantly better if it had played like Brawl. Nickelodeon just didn't give NASB the resources to stand out compared to Smash or Multiversus, such as voice acting initially, and it didn't get as much dev time as it should have.

The fact it 'plays like Melee' has basically nothing to do with the how the game's success looked like.

That's a pretty big mistake, though. Nintendo could be a publisher, but if the developer is Single Man In Mom's Basement Industries, then... Yeah, that makes a huge difference, suddenly.

Also, people actually liked the first NASB, I believe. It was just lacking in content.

I don't really like that people are talking about this, because it's going to make a bunch of people buy the game just to see how bad it is. The developers/publisher don't deserve to be rewarded like that.

why not pay a decent budget to a nice US based dev?

I don't see what all the hubbub is about. It looks like a solid PS1 game. Can't wait for that Christmas '97 release date.

It's funny. The movie never actually calls it Skull Island. They just mention "the rock that looks like a skull." Yet, Skull Island has become the title of a book, a movie, and a video game.

it actually does get called skull island in later adaptions
