Not to mention idols appearing on CM's, movies, magazines, even billboards in Shibuya and Shinjuku. You ask anyone in Japan, or even parts of Asia like Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand ect, who Shiraishi Mai or Watanabe Mayu is, and they would instantly know who you're talking about. ellis123 posted... n addition the main reason that there is any amount of it being considered "not so" is pretty much exclusively a weeb thing, as it even exists in people who are into idol stuff (specifically the level of fanaticism that would cause things like death threats). And that includes people in Asia. Instead it is mostly just a weeb "this is how the other culture thinks about things" far more than anything else as to the misperception that you have. I have to ask. Have you been to Japan? If so do you actively watch Japanese TV or Movies? Or do you keep up with current news events there? Not being condescending, its a legitimate question. I'm wondering because if you ever have visited or lived there, you would know multiple aspects of their industries are imbued in idol culture.
