Hate the sequels all you want, but the vast majority of the EU was absolute garbage. Dropping the pretext of the secondary canon that could and was disregarded on any whim was the smartest thing that Disney did with the IP. And they're still free to hunt and peck for the few nuggets of gold buried in the heap of mud without keeping the baggage.
