Hold the guest and Airbnb accountable, for sure, but I don't see this as any different than any other instance of using one's personal home to finance a business. It's a very risky move and sometimes you lose. Just sucks she gambled that kid's home away in the process.

Secondly doesn't Airbnb have some kind of protection for the person renting out their home? Also isn't there a contract that the renter would have to sign that probably gives these protections to the homeowner, such as destroying property? If not. Rereading... Regarding Airbnb protection, yeah, she mentions she was supposed to have up to $3mil in protection, but they basically fought her the entire way, such as saying they had to send an investigator out first, and then... Never sending an investigator, and so on.

It took nearly 7 weeks for the 3rd party to hire a plumber to "investigate" the toilet. Ok, so it's confirmed: it was the toilet that caused the flood! Airbnb emailed me alluding to some doubt about the origin of the baby wipes and feces (huh?) Then Airbnb offer a whopping ~$6,000 and asked me to sign away my rights to future payments. So, yeah, her thread isn't about complaining about the tenant or anything, like certain people (*coughacemoscough*) immediately jumped to. It's about how Airbnb is trying to screw her over.
