It's a two unit building, upper and lower. She lived in the lower, rented out the upper.

Damage to the upper ruined the lower, where she lived, so now she can't live in either.

It's one building.

I suppose it depends on if we're defining the second room as a separate home.

Like, if it's just a room that's one thing, if it's a whole-ass duplex that's different.

The thing is I'm pretty sure she lives in a duplex which is pretty common in San Francisco. One upper unit, one lower unit, one building. Granted I only read like the first five tweets but I didn't see anything mentioning her having multiple properties

ive never heard someone refer to the upstairs of their two story residence as a unit in any context of building types.

Hold the guest and Airbnb accountable, for sure, but I don't see this as any different than any other instance of using one's personal home to finance a business. It's a very risky move and sometimes you lose. Just sucks she gambled that kid's home away in the process.

I don't have a problem with people renting extra space in their house.

I do have a problem with people buying properties to use as Airbnb properties.

It sounds like there was protection with Airbnb, but they were rather unreasonable about the whole process, such as insisting she had to have all work that needed done to be estimated far enough and paid for in time to have actual receipts within 14 days. And, in that case, actual home owners insurance wouldn't have helped, since she wouldn't have gotten paid that quickly. Granted, I don't see her mention anything about actual insurance, but likely because it wasn't necessary for her point about Airbnb themselves.

Rereading... Regarding Airbnb protection, yeah, she mentions she was supposed to have up to $3mil in protection, but they basically fought her the entire way, such as saying they had to send an investigator out first, and then... Never sending an investigator, and so on.

It took nearly 7 weeks for the 3rd party to hire a plumber to "investigate" the toilet.

He confirmed it was the clog (baby wipes + clog feces) and valve.

The plumber refused to leave my house until I paid him $375.

Why? He said he didn't trust he would get paid (by Airbnb).

Ok, so it's confirmed: it was the toilet that caused the flood!

Great!

We should have an approved claim and be on track for the $3M Host Damage Protection that Airbnb advertises constantly.

Not so fast.

Airbnb emailed me alluding to some doubt about the origin of the baby wipes and feces (huh?)

They hinted at concerns about maintenance issues on the toilet (what?)

People have lived here for years with no broken valve or flooding or excessive flushing of baby wipes.

Then Airbnb offer a whopping ~$6,000 and asked me to sign away my rights to future payments.

So, yeah, her thread isn't about complaining about the tenant or anything, like certain people (*coughacemoscough*) immediately jumped to. It's about how Airbnb is trying to screw her over.

Which means Acemos was, in practice, literally simping over a large corporation.

I was homeless early in my 20s (true homeless I didnt even have a car to sleep in), now I in my 30s I have a rental property.
