I dont think I have the gene, but am very wary of ever getting into gambling for these reason. Ive heard from psychologists/psychiatrists that its possible the most difficult addiction to treats. Beyond any drugs.

Ive never know anyone personally (or that I know of).

That Nittany_Lions character lost a fair bit of money, and was very keen to double down on the losses in a glorious topic.

Me kind of, it's why I avoid gacha games, I can't control myself.

Dude comes into my convenience store and buys $100 tickets everyday. Sometimes he will buy like 5-6 of them waiting to win. But he will go through an entire roll of 15 in a few days. He says he doesn't have an addictions and it's just his hobby but like......he spends thousands a week.

I bet you can't prove my gambling addiction.

I literally dont have a gambling addiction.

People attempt to troll me by saying that I do because I placed a sports bet one time.

And for some reason think $250 is a lot of money.

Not trying to sound like an asshole, but $250 wouldnt even make me flinch.

Yeah I go to the casino a lot so I interact with a ton of people that play poker all day every day.

some of them do it for their jobs, and some of them have problems.

Also my dad kinda had one at a point.

My grandfather had one pretty bad. He was a skilled card player but couldn't gamble well with sports. If he and my grandmother were still around she'd have his cellphone under lock and key.

TC, do you live in a country where gambling is illegal?

Ive known a few who have talked about losing thousands casually. Their response is always "I'm going to make it right back." or some variation of making more the next weekend.

In HS I worked at a movie theatre that was in a mall next to a race track (Santa Anita). Sometimes the "track bums" as we called them would come in after a day at the races and we got to know a few of them. They could be called degenerate gamblers. These guys would have bets on everything going, from numbers to horses to NFL & NBA.

They all cheated on their wives, one guy said "70-30 odds against getting caught" once. He was serious.

AFAIK none of them had any substance abuse problems but they all had a certain level of jitteriness in the same way that crackheads and tweakers have.

I learned to recognize that.

I just dont get the thrill. Potentially losing thousands nerve racking and if you get lucky, quit while youre ahead cause youll lose more in the long run. But thats why I dont gamble, I guess.

I used to play poker full time and made friends with a guy that had a gambling problem. It was my first time dealing with someone that was otherwise successful with a debilitating addiction.

He worked at a huge law firm and would use his annual bonus to pay off some of the debt he would get on over the year. Would lose 2-5k very regularly over and over. Smart guy that just couldnt stop. Wild to see. He was making like $400k at the time and I had to pay his mortgage a few times.

When he was winning it was a lot of fun to be around. Had a $65k win one day. Brought me to the stop club after that (with the cash) and had a blast.

I gamble every single day.

I've played enough RNG minigames in video games to know how shitty my luck is.

No thanks.

Gachas are worse than real win money gambling cos the game starts off super fun then you hit a wall where you want to summon strong characters and the only way after grinding is spending money take it from me a feh and Genshin player. Ok I only spend Welkin and battle pass on Genshin but its still money spent every month though at least its a fixed amount but with feh theres like 5 packs an update that add up to like 100 a month ofc I only spend when Im tempted to summon a thing I like but I spend more on feh on average and even though I get what I want it feels bad every time like I could have saved that money for like a steam deck or something cool or literally anything but a few overpowered characters to defeat things faster and easier than if I didnt spend

If I do, theyre quiet about it.
